9) HealTech GiPRO Gear Inidcator with TRE

GIpro-S02 with ATRE bought from http://stores.ebay.co.uk/MotoMoto-NL
Listed for the KLV1000 or Best Offer, I offered him £90+ the £1 shipping which he took. :)

First thing I did was to figure out where to mount it. The dash on the K3 is all used, no free space to mount anything without making it look cluttered. I didn't want to use the sides of the surround either or the bars as its too low. I finally decided upon TDC of the dash. After removing the screen and surround, I  drilled a 6mm hole in the cowel right on the edge where the 2 pieces meet. I then cuts into the hole either side to make it a U shape, this allowed for the wiring to pass through. With some scissors, I cut the velcro into 2 sections and stuck them onto the cowel leaving the hole clear. While the surround was off, I simple feed and secured the wiring harness with cable ties, along the elft side of the bike and under the tank. The harness plugs need to goto the rear side the the engine.

Heres the display sitting pretty, good line of sight and not intrusive at all.

With the tank raised and side panels removed, you can access the required plugs. Located at the back of the engine, you'll find a white 3 pin triangle plug. This is where the GIpro plugs into. As per the distructions, the plug should have a pink, blue and black wire.

Simple using a screw driver, separate the plug and connect the GIpro inline.

You will also need a switch live. I took the feed from the rear brake light switch. This is a 2 pin connector near to the 3pin one above, it has a yellow wire in it. I didn't connect directly to it, but did take this feed and sent it to a relay to power my accessories (power socket, horn etc)

And that's all to the GIpro install. The only thing I had to do was to activate the TRE function, this is done by turning on the ignition and pressing the button on the base of it, once.

I'll have first go at identifying your spare bit. Think its a longer hero blob for one of the foot pegs. Reason is, with the centre-stand fitted you have less ground clearance. Can't remember which side it fits though. Have to look on my bike, guess its the left side.

10) Dual Hi/Low Tone Horn

Again bought from ebay for £10, these are a pair of 130 dB High Low tone horns. Not the smallest but certainly not the biggest.

The horn on the DL1000 is located behind the rad on the right hand side next to the fan. There is a black twin spade connector which has both Live and Earth when activated. However, its recommended that you don't use these connectors for anything more than the stock horn.

I used some wire and extended this back under my seat area and connected it to the coil side of a relay.

The power feed wires were then ran back from the relay to the front of the bike to where I was to install the horns.

After having a good look about the front area, the only place I could find to fit them was to mount them onto the bottom yoke, utilising the 8mm bolt hold the front brake line in place. With a bit of jiggery pokery and lining up, constantly checking full left and right lock, I managed to get them where I wanted them.

Ill admit, they are close to the front mudguard, but the only issue I've had is when I've hit a big bump, the mudguard will clash with the horns, but not enough to cause any damage. Ill get round to finessing them later but for now, theyre wired in and working.

Both the relays for the horn and the accessories(GIpro/Power socket) are activated via the rear brake switch when the ignition is on, its very useful to extend your own wire from it so you can tap into it as often as you need too.

Great stuff kev! Thanks for posting all this :thumb:   You've done more mods on your bike in 2 weeks than I've done in 2 years! Very interesting - makes me want to do more...I'm at least getting a start on my shelf this week. Wheres the best place to get sheet steel and ally (1mm?) around Tyneside ?

Thought the K3 DL1000 had a centre stand fitted as standard....? Your 'TRE' module, why does it need activated by pressing a button once....?

I recently bought a 'TRE' module (from eBay) and there was no mention of pressing any button to activate it, any ideas....?

Thanks.

Thanks.

I have a GiPro & you can switch the Tre on or off with the press of a button underneath the unit (this means you can still use the gear indicator on its own). The plug-in models don't have this ( but you can unplug them if you want to turn them off).

11) Aftermarket mirrors (carbon wrapped)

The standard K3 mirrors are far too square and look really old, so I searched about on ebay countless varieties of mirrors. I decided on a pair of nice shaped angular style mirrors with a coloured backs. Our mirrors use a M10 thread BTW.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390334016751? ... 1439.l2649

The thinking was, I could colour code them with a bit of spray. However, the £6.50!!!! tin of spray from Halfrauds wasn't as per the sample on the lid, so I ended up taking it back for a refund, rubbing down the mess and decided to carbon wrap them. The covers come off easy enough with a plastic pry tool.
Heres one of them wrapped.

Once wrapped, straight onto the bike. As you can see, they look much better and I think suit the bike very well. Not overly big, not small.

And heres a close up, the carbon I think looks really well against the dark hblue and black of the bike.

Whatever was the sponsor at the time I think. Its part of the original livery on the bike from what I've seen.

12) Clear Indicators with Iridium Lenses

So for the final part of my face lift operation, I'm changing the indicator for some clear ones. I opted for these Clear Iridium items off ebay, and decided to stick with bulbs (for now), as opposed to LEDs as it would save buying a LED relay too.

Front ones aren't too bad to do. First off, remove the dash surround, you won't need it totally off, just loose so you can move it out of the way to access the 17mm nut holding on the indicator.

Heres the Std vs New

I decided to keep the stock connectors so as not to butcher the original wiring, I just installed some bullet connector onto it. you'll find that most aftermarket indicator use male bullets so this would allow me to swap types in the future if I wanted too, without cutting, soldering etc.

Now just a case of bolting the new indicator on and plug n play.

Now repeat for the other side and then refit your dash.
The rear is a little more involved but still not too hard. The rear grab rail/rack needs to come off, via the 4x 12mm bolts.

Next there are 2 bolts either side of the rear guard, undo these.

Now simple lift it off. My rear guard has the scottoiler installed so I didn't completely remove it. There is no need anyways as you can tip it up and reach in to get to the connectors.

Now its just a case of repeating what you did on the fronts and refit everything.
Heres the finished result.
