Exactly the same happened to the Long Eaton speedway stadium near where I live.We used to go there regularly in the 70s.then a large housing development was built near the stadium and it was eventually closed due to the number of complaints about noise.
Why would you buy a house next to a speedway track if you knew it was going to be noisy ???

There used to be a really quirky, old tavern on the Quayside in Newcastle called the Cooperage. This place was all higgldy piggldy, low beams, uneven floors and just packed with real character. It had been on the go as a tavern from as far back as the 15th century and got closed when the new yuppie flats, sorry apartments, were built nearby due to 'excessive noise'. Twats, I loved that pub...
It's pronounced 'twenty-one-twelve'

Our Village Hall was fitted with a noise limiter for parties, discos etc. after a new neighbour moved in opposite and complained to the village council. A microphone picked up the volume which activated a traffic light advertisement when it neared the maximum limit which then cut the power in the Hall if passed. That pleased the neighbour who never complained again. Hmmm, he didn't know you could turn the microphone off using the very high step ladders stored away in a corner behind the stage! The green light would stay on all night, needless to say.  :happydance:
So how's it going so far then?

Swindon Speedway are going through the same problems as Long Eaton.

Developers made to pay to upgrade the stadium in order to get permission for houses and are building something the speedway club cannot afford to use.

End result will be a big building that will be quiet and loads of happy homeowners.

Yes Martin you are right there Swindon we’re reigning league champions but could not continue racing at the Abbey stadium, and it looks like the Swindon Robins will be lost to Speedway unless they can find somewhere else.

And also Peterborough panthers speedway team this will be their last season at the Famous showground, this is also being sold to Developers.

Garage I used to take my bike for MOT had a builders yard next door, following a massive housing development which surrounded them plus a few other businesses, after about 6 months the builders yard had complaints about the stacker truck driving around at 6.30am.

Local Authority planning may be guided by the desire to increase revenue through additional council tax.  250 houses could easily net another £375,000 per year.

Govt has set a target of 300,000 new homes a year in England. There could be pressure put on councils to allow building/ redevelopment, as so far each year the target hasn't been met.

I damaged the sidewall of the car's tyre today on a curb an hour away from home. Thought I'd swap the tyre for the spare only to discover although Ford provide a jack, they don't provide the relevant wrench to operate the jack, remove the wheel nuts or remove the spare wheel   :dl_smiley_banghead:

Managed to inflate it enough to drive two miles to the only tyre place open at 5pm on a bank holiday in Doncaster, Kwikfit ( :icon_no: ) who only happened to have the most expensive tyres available in, and charge more than they sell on the website if you booked them in  ###

The only 'good thing' is I was due to take the car in for new tyres anyway as they needed changing so at least it was the old tyre I damaged... Still cost me £360 though  :bawl:

His phone stopped working
It would not wake up
It was Sunday.
He used his laptop to order/ pay for a cheap replacement from Argos
His Bank sent him a text to verify his identity before it would allow the payment

Did he try the 'press and hold both the power button and the volume down button at the same time for at least 30 seconds fix.' to see if it would 'wake up?

re. the phone. He is 43 and knows about phones.
His son, my grandson, 13, has been staying over so I can look after him after a toe operation on each foot and it being a fortnight holibobs due to half term.
He doesn't do tea or coffee but he does like hot chocolate.
When I say likes it .... the new jar ran out in three days... it seems he likes to eat it dry off the spoon.
Good grief!  or words to that effect.

I damaged the sidewall of the car's tyre today

Is it not the opposite end of the wheel lug nut removing tool that I cannot remember the name of? Sure it was on my folks old Ford, it hooked into the jack. If the car isn't new to you, someone probably half-inched it.

It was also made of cheese from what I remember, so the bolts would corrode under the chrome caps, so would stretch the tool, then when you turned it it would just spin. So you couldn't change the wheel anyway...

It was 1yr old direct from Ford when we bought it. There seems to be space in the foot well storage for a tyre iron and sockets but nothing there. I've now put my tools from the garage in there for next time (best not be one). I do have auto aid cover, and nearly used them, but on a bank holiday, I'd probably have been waiting for hours.

It's due in for the rear tyres to be changed and all four wheels to be aligned - that's another £250, but still cheaper than the £450 Kwikfit wanted

I had a 4 wheel alignment done at a franchise on my Beemer about three years ago, I think it was around £120.00. Best money I've ever spent, well except beer, women and motorcycles.
The car was transformed.
ATS had tried to do it before, they were  :angry-banghead: clueless.
I have the tyres fitted there now too, they'll match any genuine like for like quote, plus they clean the wheels and wash and vacuum the car whilst you drink free coffee and eat cake. I do like cake, especially free cake.

Something I need to look at myself as the Giulia has a tendency to tramline a little: I've checked the front end out on my mate's gear, and it's bang on, so I'll have to get it on a 4 wheel rig.
