Fish. Or specifically the price of a piece of battered haddock in Skipton. Me and 'er fancied a fish butty, so ventured into the chippy. " Two fish butties please, with haddock." A'h, we've only got large haddock - £8.25 each." Exit stage left, muttering the Yorkshire battle cry.

They weren't that big. And that price didn't include the bread part of the equation

Geez ... Well, it's same down here. The chippy up the Road, one of those posh ones charge about £16 for a large fish n chips but do lunch time meal deal for £6.50 , the fish is tiny ...  :dl_smiley_banghead:

After a few shandies with the lads this afternoon I satisfied my hunger with a large Cod & mushy peas (in a tray) & it was £8.50. I'm afraid fish is more expensive than steak nowadays but who cares after a gallon of beer?  :obscene-drinkingchug:
PS the Haddock was the same price.

My apologies, that fish & peas last night was £9.50 not £8.50!!
Still a bargain when you need food.

Outrageous, simply outrageous.

I am outraged.

Meanwhile in Tickhill, a small portion of cod, chips and large mushy peas is eight quids. Only it's not small, it is enough. Pint of Tetleys (proper brown beer at room temperature) for scale.
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

That does look nice TLP & the chips look the proper colour too!  :) I don't do the red sauce though.
However I must take you up on the Tetleys, proper beer doesn't have a head on it like that!  :icon_no: room temperature yes.  :thumb:

All.
Regarding the "head" that was straight from the can, I can assure you the flavour wasn't impacted with any detriment. :lala:

Our local chippy does mushy pea fritters - they're not too bad.

I am surprised that no-one has mentioned that Black Country delicacy…….
“Battered Chips”  or   “Orange Chips” as they are sometimes known as,they are streets in front of ordinary chips or fries as the Yanks call them.

Now you're talking. Although I normally get a mix if having fish or anything else battered, else it be a bit too much!
