To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Trains - why are they so unreliable ? Three of us from work attempted to travel from Newcastle to London last Tuesday. We sat on a train in Newcastle for an hour and a half before they cancelled all the trains. We re-booked our meeting (nothing important, we're just trying to sort out £270,000,000 worth of finance...) for today and did slightly better than last week by getting to York before the plug was pulled...
It's 2022 and we can't get trains to run between London & Newcastle or vice versa. Same fault each time - overhead cable damage. As a former overhead linesman for the electricity board the likely culprit is lack of maintenance. To add insult to injury they were also off to Edinburgh so we had to take the most convoluted route home.
Simply not good enough  ###

IMHO the problems are money - not enough invested and a lack of understanding by those who make the decisions.
Back in the old days Railways were run by engineers. Now they are ignored until the "bright ideas" fail and someone needs to get stuff done with the least resources.

I work in manufacturing and our major customer base is the power network operators and the various independent contractors... the main issues being faced is shortage of materials and extended lead times for what you can get.
Order a transformer and there is a 6+ month wait and about the same if your ordering the cable ect.

That and there seems to be fewer engineers and more project managers... Meetings to discuss the discussions from the last meeting where no one has done anything as no one is skilled to do the work anymore.  :old:

Seems everyone is ditching dirty jobs to deliver for amazon or just eat.

Since I am old, and generally moaning, I suppose I'll chime in-

Every single misspelling, misuse of apostrophes, grammatical, syntactic or other writing error is far more irritating to me now that we're all on computers....for goodness sake, the software is probably UNDERLINING your errors for you, and will correct them if you simply click on it. It's not like handwritten notes, where you could (to a degree, I've always been a bit OCD about correct English) forgive folks for a misspelling or two; not everyone had a dictionary handy at all times. But now you literally have to actively ignore various software guardrails to prove to the world you just don't care.

I feel remarkably better now. Thanks for that. :)

The phrase “as happy as Larry” means a very happy person. The phrase is most suitable for the person who always remains happy, laughs a lot even when the things are not in their favour. Also, the phrase is used as a simile to compare a person's happiness.

It was indeed Hugo, in my old Volvo FH it recommended the practice in the driver's manual. Modern high pressure diesels wouldn't thank, revenue and customs take a dim view as well.

GDPR  :dl_soapbox:

I am thinking  that these regulations which were intended to protect us ( how silly of me) have become a means that enable the collection of data for any purpose whatsoever if it can be buried in pages and pages of wordage until the mug ( that would be me) signs on the dotted line to "accept all" or "decline all" ( I always click decline).  ### ### ### ###

The phrase “as happy as Larry” means a very happy person.

After all this time, I find I've been doing it wrong. :)

18 Month lead time for a 275/13.8kV transformer and a 12 month wait for 2kM of 2,500mm aluminium 275kV cable - madness.

Cookies

(not edible ones, I wouldn't moan about them).

If you select decline cookies, it doesn't remember you don't want cookies, so hounds you every time you log in. What is the purpose of "essential cookies only" if it isn't to remember that you don't want all the other cookies?

I went to see the Doctor for a check up on my leg ulcer.
After a good long look and a feel around she said it's not an "ulcer" . It's "varicose eczema".
It's a surface problem and not going rotton inside and your not likely to loose your leg. Phew! But it still bloody hurts when I stand up or put on a motorcycle boot.
Treatment is the same drink lots of water, elevate the leg above the heart - (the foot end of the bed is raised up on axle stands ) 30 minute walks a few times a day......    Sitting, day after day in front of the TV with my leg propped up on three pillows is boring. Especially during this extended dry period when I'd rather be out on the bike.
Plenty worse than me though but if I can just keep up with the moaning I'm hopeful I'll pull through.

Some of you will know that my Grandson lost his mother to a brain tumour last year. His school / tutor group friend Archie is the lad that is about to have his life support switched off. (It's been on the news for days).

Did the Doctor also prescribe buying a new bike?

The Archie case is very sad. No right and no wrong answers, but lots of heartache.
