Why not have one tax for whatever I ride/drive?

It's coming in the form of pay-per-mile of driving, which will cost more for when you have to drive at peak times.

The speed limit / pay per mile paradox. Lately I have noticed 60s being reduced to 40s and 50s and 30s reduced to 20s. When it takes longer to drive each mile there will be a corresponding reduction in the miles that can be covered by the average person in any day. Thus decreasing the pay per mile income.

Why are the prescription strengths that are printed on contact lens packaging printed so small?

Like many people, I use a different strength per eye, I have to put glasses on to be able to identify the correct lens per eye  :icon_exclaim:

I think the person who designs that tiny lettering also designs motorcycle mudguards.

Why do light switches break when being turn on far more than when being turned off. Bathroom ceiling switch.  ### I ain't climbing up there in the dark.

......... maybe they break when you turn them off, but don't find this out until you turn them on again

The spring pressure needed to overcome the "off" position is greater than that to return to "off.
Or, the urgency when entering the marble hall is greater than when leaving, thus a more savage yank on the string on the way in.
Is it just the string, or the nasty flimsy rotary switch itself, Brockett?

Grandson ( heavy handed ) did it yesterday evening
String broke  within the switch. I took it apart and got bombarded with springs and other bits. I went to a local electrical shop and bought another for £3.50.
I stood on a stool to reach it but on stepping down I backed into the door handle.
It's only when you have blood running down your leg from a torn buttock that you realise how much you might need a good friend. I had to sit on a pad of kitchen roll for half an hour. I then got on my V7 and rode 80 odd miles to my GPs office and back to drop off a skin sample for analysis. Hospital specialist thinks I have a fungal infection in my big toe and that is what is affecting my leg.  Anyhow back home I found I was still having a bit of a bleed. Still .... it was a  good ride with the dash showing 20 degrees.  Meanwhile my grandson, twelve and three quarters ate most of a litre of ice cream and a packet of bourbons. We were having a discussion about eating proper food when he told me his toe with the in-growing toenail was a bit sore. So he spent the next two hours with his foot in a bowl of salty water. while I shuttled back and forth with filling and emptying so he could warm water. My leg is still playing up and was very painful to stand on and as per above it is not less painfull to sit down. And Son phones to say he needs the weekend free so can 'H' stay with me until Sunday and I say "yes of course" as if I'd like nothing less. It's been one of those days.

That's a day Dave, look on the bright side though....

Nope, I can't see one either. :icon_wink:

I wonder how many a&e staff have seen men with damaged rears and a story of "I reversed onto a door handle"?

@TLP yes there is a bright side although the Germans call it Schadenfreude. And no. it wasn't a nice smooth round Knob, it was a lever.
Spent the afternoon today in the Urgent treatment centre with Grandson's toe. They were very good so another three cheers for the NHS.

Bloody chatbots. I want to speak or email a human to find out why my smart meter is not communicating with the supplier OVO. All I get is a Chatbot talking scribble.  ### Chatbot wants to ask squillions of questions to find out why I am calling and I want to tell it the WAN is not connecting ( the WAN indicator light flashes every second, indicating that it is searching for a connection)  but everytime I write that, the chatbot ignores it and asks another unrelated question.  :dl_hyperhysteria:

I have just communicated with an " (non) engineer" via Whatsapp. After 20 minutes of to and fro questions and answers  I come to the conclusion that the chatbot was more helpful. The Whatsapp (er) asked me a question and after one minute while I laid on the floor of the rear lobby to look at the meter TwatsApp got impatient and ended the call due to my lack of response. TwatsApp service is not an engineer but a call centre with a book of questions and responses and not someone who will listen, understand and offer any help. Modern times I guess.

Typical GPO response there Mick, turn it off, turn it back on again.

You missed out your favourite, "must be a fault at the exchange, I'll drive out to the Peak District and sit in a layby, that usually sorts it".

GPO! That was along time ago and brings back a proper memory.
When I started the foreman who was given the 'pleasure' of 'showing me the job' always removed his flat cap and clutched it to his chest saying, "GPO, Gods poor orphans" when the door was answered at the house we were going to work at.
