The word, as a verb, means to make less serious or severe with these synonyms: relieve, alleviate, mitigate, assuage, allay, soothe, soften, palliate, ameliorate, mollify, moderate, tone down, blunt, dull, deaden, numb, take the edge off
Why do they have to say "ease up" or "ease down"?
This morning on R4 the forecaster used the phrase "ease out"..........
