I came across an example of why our benefits system is in the state it is last week.
My dad passed away in early October: I got a letter on Friday from DWP saying they'll be paying his winter fuel payment to me over the next few days. I was concerned that it was meant for him & I'd end up paying it back, but it was sent to me and they went into the reason why: entitlement was ascertained as at 21-27 Sept so comes to me as next of kin.
I am fine with them paying his pension upto the date of death and other allowances to cover living expenses incurred, but he's not going to spend anything keeping warm to justify this payment. It would be even more ironic if I'd had him cremated...

Just how much more money is being wasted in this way every day?

I'm going to use the cash to do some good: not sure how yet, but I'm not comfortable keeping it when there are legitimately needy people & animals out there.

No begging letters by the way...
