One toxic chemical mixture is pretty much like another. At least if you snort Pepsi most of them end up on the windscreen.

Why does it seem that all black cars have a problem turning their lights on when the weather is shit? They are near invisible on the Motorway  :violence-smack:

I came across an example of why our benefits system is in the state it is last week.

My dad passed away in early October: I got a letter on Friday from DWP saying they'll be paying his winter fuel payment to me over the next few days. I was concerned that it was meant for him & I'd end up paying it back, but it was sent to me and they went into the reason why: entitlement was ascertained as at 21-27 Sept so comes to me as next of kin.
I am fine with them paying his pension upto the date of death and other allowances to cover living expenses incurred, but he's not going to spend anything keeping warm to justify this payment. It would be even more ironic if I'd had him cremated...

Just how much more money is being wasted in this way every day?  :icon_exclaim:

I'm going to use the cash to do some good: not sure how yet, but I'm not comfortable keeping it when there are legitimately needy people & animals out there. :dl_soapbox:

No begging letters by the way...  :icon_batterup:

Not a begging letter. It's a demand letter. Payup or else  :icon_batterup:

Probably not as much being wasted on royal family hangers on or being given away letting multinationals escape paying a fair share of tax.

I'm sure you will feed the money back into your local economy,  :obscene-drinkingchug: rather than moving it offshore via a 'Dutch sandwich'.

What about "brought" and "bought" ... the number of people who cannot differentiate is amazing ...... my neighbour told me earlier today he had just "brought" a new TV .... I said I would pop around and have a look now ... He tells me "No I have only just brought it and won't get it for another week!"

Anyway ... Time I "brought"(!) .... oops sorry "bought" my new centre stand!!!

Some great comments above!

I'm no fan of gimmicks for gimmicks sake (smart phones is one of those with a proposed app for detecting earthquakes...... :icon_exclaim: )

This is a big money earner for some but a huge environmental problem for everyone. Coffee capsules!

If people are silly enough to buy expensive machines and coffee in this form then think on the disposal of the plastic pots left behind. 3,000,000 are used each day in Australia alone. That's one billion, ninety-five million a year in just one country! Of these billions of coffee pods, only 5% are made from recyclable materials.

The new plastic bag syndrome.  :angry-banghead:
So how's it going so far then?

So....sentences which start with "So". FFS. You're not responding to a question and it just sounds w**k. Even if you were responding to a question it's still superfluous. Another creeping bloody Americanism.

It's right up there with "reach out". Is the person drowning? No, so there's no need to bloody reach out to them, is there? Tit.

Agree with the above, Simon. Already had a big rant about it on here and gave myself an anger-headache...Grrrr! It's the so-called 'experts' who are trying to reach what they consider to be our low intellects...the poor buggers have to really work hard to reduce complex ideas into language the rest of the population would understand, that they start off with a slow, "So-o..."   :angry-banghead:

Have you noticed an increasing tendency for some to pronounce the sibilant as 'sh', also? There's a black lass sports presenter on BBC mornings who does this very frequently..."shtriker" for striker, for example. The REALLY annoying thing, though, is she isn't consistent about it...argghhhh! lol :old:

So ...... I should mention that I find that particular Sports Reporter seems to mispronounce a high proportion of peoples names.

Yes, I've been annoyed by 'so' for some time. I thought it originated in science speech. It's a conjunctive or joining word tying something together and not to start a sentence.  :violence-smack:

If you are speaking to anyone who begins a sentence with "So";
A) Leap in immediately with "So what?"
or
B) Burst into song with "...a needle pulling thread" à la Julie Andrews.

Ooh, an opportunity to have two moans on the same page. Thanks Roadrocket, but I wouldn't wipe my arse on a Daily Mail, much less read it. Despicable publication. (I have detailed knowledge of a very sad story they "reported" on a few years ago. The report was about a million miles away from the truth and was very upsetting and damaging for all involved. And people believe the shit they write..)

Glad you got that off your chest SimonW.

Like you I don't read the Daily Mail nor any other news paper and haven't done for maybe three decades or more.  :topic_closed:

If you listen to Today in the mornings you'll find Mr Humphries in fine form. So.........

It's Joe not Road btw.  :)

Good man!  :thumb:

All publications are businesses and are in the business, obviously, of making money. Headlines and copy is therefore always geared towards this and may or may not be a representation of the truth. It's a crying shame that people are so influenced by it all.

I saw Mr Humphries compere a conference a few years ago and he was excellent!

And finally, ahem, sorry about the name thing  :shy:
