TPS only works if the company is UK based and have themselves agreed to its Ts&cs, as far as I know. Same with Mailing Preference. So all the foreign scamsters will still call you.
This is from the TPS website ........
The remit of TPS lies strictly within the boundaries of live unsolicited calls of a sales/marketing nature. It does not stop other call types such as recorded/automated messages, silent calls, market research, overseas companies, debt collection, scam calls, nuisance and abusive calls etc.

maybe if every phone call carried a tax of say 50pence they'd stop oh! hang on a minute  ..... but  if they were in financial difficulties the government would allow them to keep all the 50p's Just like they have given Flybe all the flight taxes their passengers have been paying.

A welcome precedent. If I'm a bit skint I shall simply not pay tax until I'm back on my feet.

Mick,
appreciate you don't get much time to answer the phone anyway being retired  :stirpot:, but we had similar issues and joined the TPS list and it didn't make a lot of difference.
So we bought phones with caller display - a lot of the prank calls come up as international or landline numbers with too many / not enough numbers, so we know not to answer... :thumb:

I've flicked the switch on the underneath of the phone. Turns the ringer off.
I can still call out if I need to, but I don't get disturbed.
Anyone who actually needs to get hold of me calls my mobile anyway.

It's usually only when I have to call insurance companies when I reach for the landline.
Back in September I tried to call to sort out the Vara's renewal.
No dial tone. Discovered that sometime between sorting SWMBO's bike insurance in Feb and September the cable on the outside of the house had snapped.  lol

Jen said we need to sort it for emergencies. Emergency services will know where you are with landlines but require you to say where you are on a mobile.
Virgin sorted it for free and 'upgraded' us to the fibre optic landline they are rolling out.

If the phone rings and I notice the little light on the phone I leave it ring and see if they call my mobile.
If they don't it means cold call and not someone I wish to speak to.

Everytime it rains, probably more than usual (or just again) the weather reporters claim "a month's rain coming, or fell, in 24 hours (or less)".

Which month and how much is that? Certainly more than a dry month no doubt...........  :GRR:

Also 'a month's rain' is when it rains.....wait for it......for a month, no?

Don't get me started on so called 'wind chill factor'.   :dl_smiley_banghead:

What has been admitted is that these unquantified expressions are used more and more to dramatise the weather forecast.  :violence-smack:
So how's it going so far then?

 :smirk: mmm Interesting.

So how fast do I need to go before the friction of the air warms me up?
To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Amusingly, UK_Vstrom650, wind chill was explained to me on the basis that "if you were standing naked in 0°C and no wind it would feel like 0°C but if you had a fair breeze it would feel like -5°C". Now come on, who's going stark b*llock naked just to prove a point, huh?

Put some clothes on, you fool..........!      lol
So how's it going so far then?

 :text-goodpost: Something like that

I was going to say to TLP that it depends if you're naked or not...  lol

I had thought I'd been living down saaawf in W. Yorkshire for too long as I now need my heated bike jacket from September to June, but I can see it's all down to wind chill.

I heard on the radio Wales has a month's worth of rain today...

Everywhere has had a month's worth of rain today. First time since last week apparently!

Also 'since records began' of that hasn't happened on 16th February for fifteen years!

FFS, really?

Call me a lemming and I must find a cliff!  :icon_wink:

(Hang on, they don't do that either...........)   :icon_exclaim:

Cheers!

Moaning because when I got my first ever Vstrom delivered last week, they replaced the rear with a brand new A41 but left the front original battle wing on with 2mm of tread and didn't think to ask me if I wanted that done too.

Saying that, it still had until June before its first MOT is due so, from another perspective, I got a free MOT and a new rear tyre.

But a moans a moan :)
