Why does most of the world seem to think that Mariah Carey has written the greatest Christmas record of all time? I wouldn't say it was terrible, but I get annoyed that it is played so often when it has so many better competitors.

It would have sunk without trace in the 1973 Christmas Number One battle.

Why do they have Christmas day mid week? Totally screws up my retirement schedule......I'm used to riding on quiet roads or p!using golf mid week.....not being harassed by the working clashing days off during my leisure time.....stick to weekends I say

Phishing emails  ###
Had one today supposedly from the TV licencing authority saying my direct debit had failed & asking me to click on a link to set up a new one.
My direct debit for the licence was taken earlier this month!!
The email looked pretty genuine too, complete with my correct email address. The link however gave it away.

It's not just TV licensing either. The mother-in-law panicked at Christmas after receiving a similar one from "O2" I told her to delete it and never click links in emails etc, nor give details over the phone if someone calls you saying the same. As it happens the mother-in-law isn't even with O2 (though she used to be). I'm just glad she was here when she got the email otherwise she'd have probably clicked the link and paid.  :violence-smack:

 ### "nor give details over the phone if someone calls you saying the same".
That's something our family tell mum and dad on every visit (although they don't use the internet they get 'the' phone calls!) Say nothing and give no details!!

Also don’t call them back as often they will keep the line open so it doesn’t matter what number you dial on landline they are still connected to you.

That used to be the case and the line would stay 'open' for quite a few minutes if the called phone was put down but the caller didn't. However I do believe that all providers of land lines have altered that to a few seconds now.
Still enough perhaps to catch an unaware person out, but better.

A friend answered the phone and an Asia woman said she was from microsoft and his computer has a virus that is spreading the virus around the internet and his computer will be shut down unless he downloads a virus killer that she will send to him.....
He expressed his gratitude, telling her she must be a 'spiritual person'. He asked her if she believed in God. She said "yes" ... "and you believe in heaven"? and she said "yes."
"Well you're not going there, you thieving lying c---". and put the phone down.

Despite being registered with the Telephone preference service (TPS) we still get the odd dodgy phone call & If (& only if TLP ) I have a few spare minutes in my busy days & I get a call I do like to play along and keep them on the phone for as long as possible. Asking questions and answering theirs with wrong details.
Deb answered the phone three times this morning to a recorded message saying it was our internet provider and our broadband will be disconnected unless we 'do something'!!
Like I said, we are registered with the TPS but I must check the details as we've had a few annoying calls recently.  ###

TPS only works if the company is UK based and have themselves agreed to its Ts&cs, as far as I know. Same with Mailing Preference. So all the foreign scamsters will still call you.

I have sorted my cold calling problem about six months ago.Checked my phone bill and found I had only used it once in the past three months.Unplugged it and cured the problem.I get unlimited calls and texts on my mobile contract, so no problem there. The most recent cold call was from “Microsoft”telling me I had a virus and could they send me a link so they could sort out the problem on line.I told the gentleman on the phone that my computer was switched on(fib but I had my fingers crossed) so please send it.He then asked me for my email address so I made one up.He then spent 15 mins.trying to send it.I asked him if he was in contact with my computer and he said yes he could see all of my mouse movements, when I told him it was impossible as it was not switched on,it went very quiet and the line went dead.Heh,heh, cheered my day up.😂
