My mum was born across Donegal Bay from there, halfway between Killybegs & Ardara.
A beautiful country, lovely people & the Guinness is the best.
I've been to many places in the world but Ireland is the only place that I have a tear in my eye when I leave.

Mullaghmore and the Gleniff Horsehoe are about an hour away from me,  in the 2nd pic above you can see Sliabh Liag in south west Donegal in the far distance across the bay to the left,  we could be related Mick you never know!
Great roads here for bikes, the Donegal Highlands are like a mini Scotland, great place to live and ride a bike.

Peile, a couple of photos of the old 650 at Slieve League (or as you locals call it Sliabh Liag  :)) taken on the Donegal leg of the WAW in 2015.
I did climb to the top & walk along the ridge some 30/40 years ago, I struggle to climb on & off the bike now!!  lol

The WAW is a great road trip & some cracking scenery, but Donegal is definitely the best bit, IMHO.  :thumb:

Great stuff Mick, it's a tough climb up across the 'one mans pass' on Sliabh Liag,
they have built a car park and toilets etc at the bottom of the access road and you have to pay to go up, they have shuttle buses now for tourists,
they still let bikes up for free though if you get a friendly local on the gate, I hardly bother going up there now though, there are some fantastic roads not on the WAW at all in Donegal.
There's a road behind the mountain called the Pilgrim's path, it's unpaved and tough going but you can ride a bike right up to the back of the mountain and the one mans pass is just above you, suit something like a crf 300 better though.

Yes, when we were there in 2015 the car/bus park & visitor centre were there. We stayed in a B&B at the bottom of the road (I think it was called Slieve League B&B? owned by a retired fisherman/trawlerman who worked out of Killybegs). The day we rode up to the top of the road the gate was open & unattended.  :icon_wink:
One of the reasons I love Ireland so much (other than my heritage) is the kindness you get shown. The B&B didn't do evening meals so we planned to ride down to Teelin to The Rusty Mackerel for food, the owner offered & gave us a lift down so we could have a few Guinness. When we got there it was a day they didn't do food, but the landlord made us a plate of sandwiches, never charged us for them either, & then gave us a lift back to the digs a few hours later!
That wasn't the only time we were shown such kindness on our many visits to Ireland.

Regarding the roads, yes, we went 'off piste' quite often.
