Tyre Choice
« on: October 02, 2010, 17:17:39 »
Hi there
I'm looking to replace the tyres on my Vee.
Currently have Trailwings don't like the unresposive feel you get with them also wet weather riding feedback seems extremly vague.
I do a 75 mile commute to and fro to work on mostly A roads and motorway.
Have been looking at fitting Michelin Pilot Roads as I have no need for of road capability.
Has anyone out there tried them and if so I'd apreciate any comment good or bad.
Cheers
John

My thoughts are :-

Tyres are a personal choice

I have Battlewings fitted to my Vee and they are Excellent

I think anything will feel great after Trailwings

Road tyres give slightly better grip than dual purpose but the only last two thirds of the time. I ride around at a fair pace and Tourances, Battlewings or Distanzia's have never been found short of grip wet or dry.

If you ride around like Carl Fogarty then Road tyres might be Justified, although if you do, why have got a Wee and not a GSXR

C'mon spring I want to get riding

Thanks for the advice
I agree that tyres are a personal choice.
I have used mainly Metzelers or Avons on most of my bikes.
The only reason I was looking at the Pilots was that I had been offered a pair for £160.
I was going to go for Tourances based on what I've read on the forum.
Useful to know that you get better mileage from the dual purpose tyres.

I had Battlewings on the Wee when I got it, just put on some Maxxis Presa Detour tyres and they are very similar although I feel that the front is more stable at speed and in the wet the front feels more confident. I had got the Maxxis tyres cheap from Backdraft on here. The Maxxis tyres reportedly do not last very long, I'll be the judge of that myself. My next set of tyres will be the Michelin Anakee 2 tyres, they tick all the right boxes and they claim that they last longer. I do a lot of miles a months so high mileage from a tyre is a deciding factor for me. One thing that I particularly like about dual sport tyres is the wide grooves, I figure that those have to make them better in wet weather because there's more place for water to move into. I had a quote from my local ProTyre for a set of Anakee 2 tyres, fitted & balanced if I take the wheels in it comes to £195, not too bad at all. The Anakees 2 tyres might be worth a look if you haven't decided yet.
