Hi

Had the 800RE in for its 24k service, no problems!

New shower tray fitted, as I cracked the old one with an excess of weight (mine)!

Still the bikes good for the rest of the year so smiley face.

Crazyhorse ,
I tested the 800RE and , like some ,  found a few vibes . But I was comparing it to my super smooth 650 I rode up  on. I grew up with p twins so didn't find the vibes any worry . But I tend to ride " fairly " hard and " use " whatever engine is under me , not sure if that makes a difference to how the vibes are perceived / felt  in this case
As you have put the miles on , have you felt the vibes decrease  ( the one I rode was zero miles and in no way broken in  ), if you felt them at all on yours ?
The RE is almost certainly going to be my next bike ( I have been following the Tiger 800 Sport  forums ...and already some electrical gremlins  showing up   :GRR: ) , so thought I would ask someone that has put the miles on  :thumb:
Ta ,
Same question to other 800 owners  ( DE or RE ) :thumb: any input is good input ,
Ta again.

As to the shower ...done that  too .
Bit late , but when I fitted a new one , instead of paying more for the beefed up version ( a lot more ) I stuck a bit of ply on the back and some fibreglass over it from work on the cheapest one I could find  ....solid as a solid thing now  :icon_wink:

Nigel S, if you like to use what engine you have, make sure you take a Transalp out for a test ride. The 2025 onwards models have the suspension sorted and are a very good bike. The earlier ones will probably need a bit of suspension work to get the best out of them, how much depends on how hard you ride? No vibes to worry about either...

Nigel, we have just short of 10k on ours now & I definitely think any vibes that were there have 'smoothed' out.
When I say "think", that's because I could only feel them if I stopped to think about it & they were only there around the 5k rpm mark anyway.
If I was accelerating through it I never noticed them, I could only feel them on a motorway/dual carriageway when holding a steady 5k rpm at around 70mph.
Any vibes I did feel were from the bars (not the pegs) so I fitted grip puppies & I only fitted those because I got them for free!!  :icon_wink:
If I hadn't got them for free I'd still be riding without.
So, I don't feel any vibes, but I have got grip puppies fitted.

Ta Gents  :thumb:

2112 , if they made a "sport " version , like the Africa Twin , with  19 /17 " cast wheels and tubeless I would be all over it  Not adverse to Honda , 21" or tubes , see my CRF  , but have that end of things already covered

Mick , Ta , pretty much as you have posted before , glad to have it confirmed as the miles rack up :thumb:

Any others wanting to chime in would also be helpful , quite a few low mile deals going at the moment , that while I am not done with the 650.... are VERY tempting....

Having owned a Triumph fairly recently and been an active member on a number of Triumph related forums, I can say warranty work is 'sketchy' and depends entirely on your dealer. Good dealer = great service & strong warranty, bad/lazy dealer = poor service & poor warranty. Obviously, it shouldn't be like that and every bike you buy should be dealt with equally & fairly. I bought my Tiger 1200 for Triumph Newcastle, who were great throughout the whole ownership experience. I had a leaking rear shock picked up at the first service (a known issue, a duff batch of seals from WP) and repaired under warranty, over £1,200 worth of claim to Triumph. I have heard of other owners with the same (known) issue being fobbed off. Excuses from 'excessive use' and 'overloading', leaving owners with the dilemma of either paying for it themselves or going down the legal route. Aftermarket is not even an option as it's electronic suspension and only the WP shock will work with the Triumph electronics (many have tried...). A 'normal' shock absorber stops virtually all of the electronics working, possibly a built in 'safety' feature? If you're going Triiumph, do your homework on the dealer first!

nigel s - I'm another 800RE owner, have had it about a year but only done a few k miles.

Few issues - the headlight isn't the best but adjusting it helps, both for seeing by at night but also being seen by day and the suspension is a little soft but that's not a bad thing as it does make for a comfy ride.

I don't notice the vibes as I don't sit on motorways, for A and B road stuff, it's barely noticeable.

Economy is great, 65mpg easily, grunty motor - it actually feels more responsive than my 1000 - a little more manageable and agile than the 1000.

For Nigel S

The vibes on my RE seemed to drop away after about a thousand miles. Like yourself, I'm not unfamiliar with parallel twins (despatched and destroyed a couple of Superdreams and the like back in the day) and to some degree I think it's just what you've been used to. The RE has, I found, a very different engine character to the 650 strom I came from. The first few times I rode it I was almost caught out by the comparative lack of engine decompression and had to get used to using the brakes a bit more. Talking of which, are a bit lackluster. My next 'mod' will be some replacement pads - some HH's improved the 650's stopping noticeably.
It's fun! I think you'll get on with it. To me, much better handling than the 650 with a softish but compliant ride. Add that to the extra power and it's all smiles. It hasn't got the absolute grunt of a big bike (especially in 6th) and occasionally dropping a gear is needed (this could be just me pootling along in too high a gear though). The nimbleness is great and it hides it weight well. I've had no issues with the OE tyres - would some Trail attacks or michy 6's be better? No doubt, but I'm in no rush to swap 'em out. Comfier than the 650. Hardly been touring on it but have ridden past the 75 to 90 minutes mark where I'd have to get off the 650 for a bum break. The rider modes are genuinely useful, icy mornings power down, ABS and traction up.
On the negative side, the lights are appalling, budget for some spots unless you never ride in the dark. The screen? It's more of a wall. You'll have a job using your bracketry from your 650 on it. Just about sorted mine now I think - I'll bung some pics up in a new topic in the Strom bit of the forum as don't want to fill up this bit too much.

Again , Ta gents  :thumb:

Pete ,Ta , the poor light is not something I worry about TOO much , I have as set of spots on my desk that have been there for 2 ? years waiting to go on the 650 .....might ? get round to fitting them to the next bike ....

pstm , Ta , the engine braking was one thing I liked about the 650 , being able to regulate speed without the brakes was a nice thing . I have a game I play when I overtake coming into a 30 , then roll up to the enevitable speed sign without touching the brakes at bang on 30 ...then smile as the overtaken car sets it off..... may even give a purposeful look in the mirror ( seen you  :haha: )  makes me smile anyway........ :lala:
As to the screen , I remember a post on Stromtroopers where a 650 owner had managed to finagle his Madstad onto his 800 , I will keep the Madstad and put the ( only used for 30 miles  :icon_wink: ) OE one back on  the 650 when the time comes I think :thumb:

2112 , ta, my Triumph dealer , Lings , is very good . I got my GasGas from them and a CBR600FM back in the day. No worries there .
But reliability is one of my main concerns so ......? ..having a summer trip ruined , say , 'cos a simple warning light is on and it is in limp mode and the part is not avaliable  would cheese me off no end...

Took Deb out for dinner. Very nice pub & a very nice meal.
Then drove over to one of our local gun clubs to have a look. They've bult a new club house & built new clay shooting stands & altered others.
They've also got a very nice cafe, where I could have got two all day breakfasts for the price I paid for one of the meals in the pub!  :groan:
(I've logged it in the mental microwave for future reference.  :icon_wink:)
However the main reason I wanted to go was check out the new rifle ranges they've built, in particular, the air rifle range.
I'm not using the shotgun as much now, as the two lads I used to go with don't shoot any more & it's not so much fun on my own. Deb will come with me & release the clays, but it ain't the same.
She will use the shotgun but it is a bit heavy for her & she complains about a sore shoulder after a dozen cartridges or so.
Anyway, an air rifle seems to be a good idea/compromise, not only could Deb use it but the grandkids could too.  :thumb:
Decisions, decisions. Sell/part exchange the shotgun & buy an air rifle or keep the shotgun & buy an air rifle?
The lad in the shop mentioned an Air Arms S510 (.177) as a good range rifle, he also said it would be good for pointing at the rat(s) under my decking.
Anyone (Doc) with knowledge of such things please feel free to advise.  :thumb:

Mick, if you ask 100 air gunners which rifle to go with, you will get 100 different answers but I have 4 Weihrauchs, 3 rifles and 1 pistol (also a Webley pistol) and love the way they are made and the accuracy. You also won't go far wrong with Air Arms.

https://www.air-arms.co.uk/product/S510

The AGF (Air Gun Forum) is free to join and after 40 posts you can access the For Sale section where you may find something used that you like.

https://airgunforums.co.uk/

I bought my last gun from Perkins Gun Shop (online) and found the cheapest HW97 ss (scoped too). It was even worth it after them posting it to my local gun shop £30 and £25 to the local shop for receiving it.  :thumb:

I hope this is of some help. One more thing, it's easy to get addicted to air guns and end up with many more than you need, which is only one.

I think mine is a "Webley" Mick with a cheap scope on it. It's a great rat killer at up to 10 metres or so. They really squeal when they take one too. They don't like it up em. It'll take out small rabbits at around 15 metres.
If you've got rats get an air rifle. Although I obviously have not got rats anymore.
Pffffffftttttt.

Cheers Doc/Upt.
Doc, yeah , the lad in the gun shop mentioned those two & a couple more, but he did say the Air Arms are probably best value for money. I bought my shotgun from there & I found them very good & honest. They answered my questions, gave advice & let me decide
Upt, the rats aren't a big problem, just one or two showing now & again. I've caught a few in a humane trap & took them a ride 5 miles up the road  chucked them out in a 'truckers layby', where there's plenty of food!  😁
If I could get Deb to stop feeding the  birds, I'm sure I wouldn't have the problem.
She gives the rats (& mice) names & won't let me poison them, not that I like doing that anyway.

No rush, so anyone else who shoots an air rifle, please jump in. 👍

Mick, is that like not naming a calf or piglet at birth incase you inevitably get round to eating it one day when fully fattened grown.......?

What would you use for wild boar? Plenty of them around here.
So how's it going so far then?

That's what I tell her. They don't need a name, they'll die before they get used to it. ☺️
