LOOBman
« on: November 24, 2015, 20:30:09 »
Looking to fit a chain oiler to my new Glee. Most common and probably the most expensive is ScotOiler. I have however found one called LOOBman. Does anyone have any experience with this oiler? only costs £25 but part of me thinks the old mantra 'buy cheap, buy twice'.

I bought one, but haven't fitted it yet. So, no help at all.

I've gone off Scottoilers & now have a couple of Loobmans, simple and basic but they do work well, although with all of my oilers, I run the drip feed to the top of the lower run of the chain just behing the front sprocket.

I've not used a loobman, but I have had 2 tutoro manual oilers.
They are good for my offroad bike where I turn it on a fairly fast flow on my back from a trail riding session and the chain is caked in mud. But now I'm using the bike for commuting I'm back to oiling the chain with a syringe and paint brush with old engine oil. I keep leaving it turned on and it empties itself while I'm in work.

The big bikes have scotoiler V-systems. One of them I took off my Wee when the bike died. It was the first thing I took off. They hold quite a bit of oil, can have extra reservoirs if needed and just work when the bike is running.

The loobman does look tidy, a simple piece of kit. But won't work on a minimalist off road bike I'd want to use it on.

The Loobman that I used back in 09 worked very well.
The oil is primed into a small feed bulb and so only that amount of oil can come out.
It was a bit of a fiddle to get the correct feed rate and hold the end feed in the right place.
However it may be a different design now.

For my sins I use the PD mini system on both of my bikes and it works without fuss.

I did try a scottoiler but could never get the end feed to stay on and eventually the chain ate it. Maybe I am just too hopeless a mechanic.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can. Nothing travels faster than the speed of time.

I had a touring scottoiler to my last bike. I have just bought a loobman and hope to fit it this weekend. The instructions seem pretty straightforward and there is a youtube video that shows how to fit and adjust it.

I fitted a LOOBMAN recently to my Glee, good bits of kit work well. I had one of the originals many moons ago fitted to a Tiger, the newer updated version is a lot cleaner and easier to use.

I had an old one on my Bandit, I fitted the bottle to the left hand pillion foot rest so on a long ride I could lean back and give it a squeeze, did the job until a used scottoiler came along!
