Harsh Martin, very harsh. My "I blame the parents" comment is my stock reply to any family dispute. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Usually is doesn't. :)

I consider the word 'Store', when referring to a Shop, an Americanism, so I am already irritated when I see or hear it. What really bakes my noodle though is the phrase 'in store' particularly as some seem to think they can also invent a word (Instore)  :angry-banghead:

Signs in cars that say

" Slow Down - Show Dogs in Transit"

So bloody what? Will I be driving any more carefully just because you've got some over-bred mutts in the car?

- Grumps - they're just bragging about their dogs.  Like those sad folk with "little princess on board" Signs.

No phones for me, I even turned down a quote from a Plumber because his company was called Plumb4U.

Oh, there are still people on this very site who insist on writing that gibberish here  :icon_batterup:

Kindly pass me the can opener Mrs Power, I need to release the worms....

People who refer to a vehicles instruments as "clocks".

Clocks tell me the time, nowt else.

The collection of various gauges, meters for speed, revolutions per minute, temperature of the coolant and fuel level (if fitted) are not clocks, they are INSTRUMENTS formed in a cluster.

Please do not get me started on people calling gears "cogs"...... ###

Nah, sorry but you're waaaay out of line there TLP..
Speedo and rev counters were originally made by clock makers like Smiths, so clocks they were.. and clocks they always will be.  :icon_batterup:
Instruments, just noooo..  :icon_no: save that for the orchestra ????

going to 'cog' it down a gear or two now and disappear..

Instruments it is.........

From the horses mouth....

"History of SMITHS Instruments

Samuel Smith & Son

Samuel Smith Junior began selling clocks and watches in the Strand, London in 1871.  By the turn of the twentieth century they were the premier clock and watch supplier in London and at the same time taking their first steps into manufacture of automotive speedometers.  Through the twentieth century the product portfolio grew and the name Smiths became synonymous with automotive components.  One of the factories producing instrumentation was in Ystradgynlais, South Wales,   formerly the Celtic Clock and Watch factory known locally, even today, as ‘Tick-Tock.’"

Also....

"Smiths became the dominant supplier of instruments to British motorcar and motorcycle firms"
