To be happy, I don't need private helicopters,a Florida house or a yacht. I'm fine with my motorcycle,a trip to a forest in Bavaria and some lunch money.

Thank you indeed Alan T..
Quote.. "formerly the Celtic Clock and Watch factory known locally, even today, as ‘Tick-Tock'.’"
So they made Clocks.. Tick-Tocks.. and it was waaaay before any mention of ins..inst..instr.. gawd, I can't even say the word..
Thanks for proving me 100% correct and clearing that up once and for all Alan ????
Clocks they are then.  :thumb:

change of subject lol
so
a friends mate was mugged this weekend
3 young lads, on crossers, masked up, no lids
and almost certainly no licences, tax etc
possibly underage
and this isn't in london, in nottingham
earlier in the year a gang of " marauding" youths on quads and crossers riding through the city centre down pavements diagonally across road junctions and across pelican crossings was plastered all over the local news
in certain areas I've had them ride around me ( round both sides, as I'm riding across town, )
again no helmets etc and no idea of safe road use

2 things
where is this trend coming from?
and what as bikers can we do to minimise the effect it has on everyday non bikers?
because after years of improving the "image" of bikers
this is having the effect of making people wary of people on bikes again

anyone that knows me knows I am not a stickler for law and order lol
but I hate it when things like this draw unwanted attention
and they make every biker in the country look crap

what can we do?
answers on a postcard please lol

It's the perfect storm of dwindling police numbers on the street courtesy of one ex Home Secretary May and an emboldened ever growing feckless youth. The lack of helmet is now not only a badge of honour in their seedy litttle world but allows them to ride home for tea of an evening unhindered after a hard days wrong doing.

Going places we had no right to, one particular Farmer pursued me off his favourite bit of snowy moorland until I went tits up on the first bit of ice covered tarmac we came to. After a slide that seemed to go on forever the farmers howls of laughter ensured I never troubled him again !

Baseball bat is the first thing that comes to my mind!!!  :icon_batterup:
Yeah! Most of us did a few wrong/foolish things when we were younger (probably still do) but if we were caught we were disciplined accordingly. Today that poor overworked copper catches someone, spends hours doing the paperwork, gets the offender in court and the magistrate/judge slaps them on the wrist (not too hard though, it's against their human rights)!!  :dl_soapbox:

And ... if yob on scooter ( nowadays misnamed "moped") takes off , or is not wearing a crash helmet the police CANNOT pursue as if the yob crashes and is injured / killed the police will get the blame.

phrasal verb. If you clock up a large number or total of things, you reach that number or total. In two years, he clocked up over 100 victories. [

Maybe it's an age thing.. those of a more, shall we say 'mature and experienced' vintage, will always call em clocks.
All the bikes I started riding on in the 70's and 80's had big, often chrome, Clocks.
They were never called instruments.. that term was never heard of, or even mentioned in any write-ups, by anyone, ever. (Not even in the wonderously alien Cycle World!).
I remember being fabulously impressed by r-kids K6 CB750 back in 1976.. it had an oil warning, and high beam idiot light, but only one for both the indicators.. (seem to think the '77 version had two). And when my other brother bought a Z650 in 1979 and we discovered it had Hazard warning lights fitted, Wow.. we thought the whole world had gone mad, and hoped it'd break down just so we could use em.
I can see these days they look more like something from a sci-fi film than a speedo, but to me, and many-many more, they are, and always will be.. whatever their form.. Clocks.
(even if they become a head-up display in my visor).  :thumb:
