My Grandson is 10. His mother has a brain tumour and is steadily declining and loses use of limbs and reasoning skills from time to time : They live in tier 4.

My son lives with me in tier 2.

My wife is on Chemotherapy and waiting for an operation for which she must stay Covid free. The Chemo' has reduced her immune system to almost nil: She lives in tier 4.

Grandson's mother is going through a difficult patch and wants Grandson to stay here for Christmas. But that's not allowed.

Having suffered from pleurisy in 2016 and double pneumonia in 2012 my GP says I must not catch this virus as my lungs are already weak. I have no wish to catch the virus from the germ factory a.k.a. my Grandson so I could go and stay with my wife, but that's not allowed.

None of this has anything to do with Christmas which just happens to be my least favourite time of the year.   :humbug:

OK then that's my bit of moaning done for now.

You put the plight of those complaining like hell just because they can't get all their mates round to get pissed this year into perspective.

@ Brocket, I am not in favour of people joining in groups just for fun, to have a few beers, ride motorcycles etc.
Your situation may go against the rules but I'm afraid that if I were you, those rules would be bent slightly!!

Thanks for the kind words. It's just me having a moan. Whatever action I take will be open for judgement only after the event and the outcomes becomes obvious.  I dare say that there are many folk in far worse situations, yes far worse. I believe the "tier rules" are formulated with the best interests of the public at their centre. Anyhow I have decided to stay put and not add to my wife's health risks and "Junior" is not going to be shut out. If he brings the dreaded lurgy then so be it. He may be living here soon anyway as his mother was not expected to survive until Christmas.

Very sad news about your Grandsons mum that is Dave. Things like that make having to stay in & not have family/friends around for one Christmas very insignificant! Although we should make use of every opportunity to see loved ones if & when we can.
You have made the correct decision mate.

Brockett, sorry to hear mate. You have to do what is necessary.
There are exceptions to the rules, Respite care, childcare etc.
If you do get caught I can't see any judge upholding a penalty that is dished out.
You could always get your grandson tested first. I know it is not much help but do what you have to do.

Grandson and Son have both had Covid, Granson's mother was tested and shown up as positive when she was admitted for her second tumour removal surgery in November and Son was away looking after Grandson.
If all that wasn't tricky, this morning I found my central heating boiler has sprung a fair old leak. So no hot water or heating until my plumber comes back from his holibobs on or after 4th January. We have an electric shower so we won't stink. Water is leaking from the diverter valve / motor  actuator and when I looked at it the anti-corrosion gloop was in a puddle under the boiler and inside the boiler and had flooded the control circuit board on the the way down. I can't see why the manufacturer would fit the electrics underneath all of the water connections when they could just as well be higher up. If the liquid has damaged the electrical components I may have to get a new boiler. This one is three years old  with a two year warranty so I'm not too happy about that.  ###

My plumber came round on the 4th and said the boiler is still under warranty and called in Baxi Services. The Baxi repair chap came along this morning at 08:15 and changed the diverter valve do-daband was gone by 09:30. Boiler fixed and bungalow warm again. Those fan heaters were OK but electricity costs were IRO £9 per day. ###
Yes I know gas boilers are contributing to climate change and that will,  in time, flood one third of England. However currently ( no pun intended) one KWh of gas is 2.7 pence and one KWh of electricity is 14.2 pence. Without Gas I would be paying IRO £2300 a year to be not very warm. And that is today's dilema and tomorrow's ongoing problem.

Quote removed

Don't worry, the government have plans to increase the taxable rate of gas over the coming years to 'incentivise' people into moving over to electric heating. The price differential will be the other way around in around 10 years time. But electricity will not be 2.7p...

Governments. They're good at incentivising people. Or is that "taxing"? Anyhoo, I was finding the cost of heating my workshop with a fan heater a bit taxing so have invested in a diesel heater. Talk may be cheap but warmth is not...
