Nope, they're all bad, as you say. It's just Google is by far and away the very worst (check out the study which looked at how many times Android phones home even overnight when not in use, amongst others). Apple is the least-worst. At least they don't flog your data to absolutely everyone. Probably because they make money from their very expensive (by comparison) hardware, whereas Android handsets are dirt cheap, because you are the product.
And in fairness to Apple, you don't actually have to grant very many priveleges to have a decent experience, again unlike Android. As an example, I checked the photo gallery on my Android table the other day before I wipe it and flog it. Samsung Gallery wouldn't open unless I gave it access to location, contacts and calendar. WTF? Just no. And why doesn't GPS location work in the middle of nowhere unless I turn on wifi and mobile data on my Android handset? Google tells me it's more accurate if it uses wifi. But halfway along a trail in the middle of nowhere? WTF? Just no.
