I may re-enable one or two of the festive smilies, I'm not quite as bitter as Brockett  :smirk: but Christmas is for (late) December  :thumb:

Edit: Martin beat me to it  :)

Third day of fireworks, each one worse than the previous .... it's like downtown Baghdad.  Should be display only and not on sale to the public.

what Brockett said, this morning at 04:40 some dickhead near me started letting them off. He had probably just got in !!!!  Inconsiderate fuckwits seem to be everywhere these days. No consideration for others with babies, dogs or just wanting a lie in. I hope he badly burnt himself !!

There's knack all visual element to most fireworks now - they aren't for kids any more, after all. It's a night of "I've spent more on artillery than you have". My local Morrisons has massive adverts for litre bottles of vodka, whisky, gin, bourbon etc.... Bugger all on pie n peas or parkin.

@Tusker, we called it bonfire toffee this side of the hill. I was only talking to my Mum yesterday about our bonfire nights when we were kids. She used to bake parkin and make our own bonfire toffee, boiled sugar and butter poured into a foil tray. The danger games started as we tried to smash it into edible pieces with the toffee hammer, the hammer barely scratched it so we resorted to a claw hammer wrapped in a hanky.

Sometimes it was a clean hanky. :)

Did that at a friends house, used all the sugar and butter we could find and when nicely cooked he decided to cold the tray of superheated toffee mix by floating it on cold water in the bath. Before he got the plug or the water in he slipped and the whole lot tipped into the plughole. Yep blocked it, rock solid. I went home so I wouldn't have to listen to his explanation to mum. Back in the day of sweated lead pipes it was not a quick or cheap fix.

Just found this thread, so I'll get right down to it....
The below list is not exhaustive. (The lack of capitals is intentional)
It's not that I dislike the days in particular, but rather the twats who use it as an excuse to try to sell you cards and crap you wouldn't want to be found dead in a ditch with.

Eff halloween (satanism, bullying, begging & robbery)
Eff bonfire night (animal cruelty, arson & pyromania)
Eff christmas & new year (adultery, domestic violence, gluttony, drunkenness & vomiting)
Eff valentines day (sad effs wandering around with bunches of flowers / effin' 'romantic' meals.
Eff easter (putting religion to one side, what's the big effin' deal about effin' chocolate effin' eggs?)
Eff mothers', fathers'(!), aunts'/uncles'(!!), grandparents' (!!!) days (effin' supermarkets).
Eff birthdays (age is no cause for celebration, especially when you're an old git!)
Spleen vented, I'm back in my box for now.
I wouldn't care to be a member of any club that would accept me as a member....Marx (Groucho not Karl)

Excellent moaning there, you seem to have everything in place to be a coveted grade "A" moaner.

Have you been at the Dentists again?
