I've not really found any other helmets that can be added to the list. I was thinking of removing the Caberg V2 407 from it, it has the slider to operate the sun visor along the middle on top of the helmet and I have read reviews of other Caberg helmets with the same mechanism being noisy because of it. The V2R-R has the slider on the left where the visor attaches to, this seems a much better design. I have a few places that I will go by this weekend so I will report back afterwards. Any feedback on the helmets on the list is still very welcome.

One slight sideways comment - I have stated in the past I would never buy another helmet without an internal sun visor, and then I went and bought a tour-x3... the peak does a reasonable job and the hjc lid I also have sucks in every other area in comparison. I think my tour-x3 is fantastic and my only minor gripe is the fiddle in changing visors, as it needs a screwdriver (or a 2p)

I appreciate the tour-x3 is waaay out of your budget, but maybe don't totally discount that style of lid, if any do fit into your range, that is. You'd likely get the chin space you desire for starters..

I did look at some of them, most notably the Shoei Hornet DS, before I got the Qwest. Also had a good look at someone's (WeeStrommer?) Arai Tour-X3 this past weekend. I do like them, but I think it will be difficult to find a budget one that's any good and that would be good enough for 99%+ motorway riding. I'm still convinced of the internal sun visor, just yesterday I left the house in Warwick with the sun shining and a dark visor and had to stop on the A404 to change to a clear visor because it was raining there and the dark visor was making it a bit difficult to see. I have to stop, take my gloves off, change visor, the visor that goes on would now have rain drops in the inside, put my wet hands into the gloves, put gloves back in under my cuffs and then get on a wet seat. That vs flicking a lever is a no brainer, at least for me in my situation. I thought I could live without the visor when I got the Qwest, but even though it is a good helmet, having to change the visor each time the sun decided to come out behind the clouds is just a PITA.

A dual sport type helmet with an internal sun visor would be great :)

I have the V2 407 and I don't think the slider's noisy, though the one on the left is easier to work...

Popped in to Henry Gherkin Oxford today and tried a few, the AGV S4 SV still tops my list at the moment, tried a K4 just to see but it was completely different and not comfy at all.

Still like the Arai Tour X but pricy and no sunvisor..
No bike at present.......

The Arai tour x is good, like it's been said already they are a little pricey. I was using a caberg trip before that, which had the second dark lense.
The peak on the Arai seems to stop most of the sun beeming into your face, on the odd occasion I have to tilt my head slighty downward to allow the peak to block the sun. It's a great fit and has the removable inner to allow for washing.
The downside of the Arai is the peak catches the wind after 95mph ish and some of the gold effect paint on the mouth vent has flaked off.

I tried the AGV S-4 SV and AGV Stealth SV on today. They are very similar, the Stealth has a double D-ring and the S-4 has a micrometric ratchet. I prefer the double D-ring, but the micrometric adjuster is not too bad to live with. The AGV helmets didn't sound all that quiet and the padding was folding weirdly at the side of my face even though the helmets fitted well. The chin bar wasn't as close as I previously imagined when trying on the old S-4 and Stealth. I wasn't too impressed with the sun visor mechanism, it needed a fair amount of pressure to operate it and was quite small and fiddly, it's bound to break with regular use.

I tried the Nolan N85 on and I was impressed, the build quality looks good and the padding was comfortable. The sun visor mechanism was easy to operate and the visor can remove quite easily. The helmet is already factory fitted with a Pinlock type insert (something the AGVs lack.) The vents look well designed, aren't fiddly and have a positive feel when operated. I had the helmet on for a while and found it very comfortable, too bad it doesn't have a double D-ring, I think I will get used to the micrometric adjuster.

I also tried the Shark S900, as always, the Shark helmets are very comfortable and a good fit for me. The sun visor operates easily and the Shark visor changing is probably the quickest and easiest on the market. I've had a Shark before and they all seem to suffer from bad vents, particularly the top ones.

I didn't bother going somewhere with Cabergs in the end and the Lazer Breva I looked at wasn't my size, but I wasn't impressed with it at all.

The Nolan N85 impressed me and even though I leaned towards the Shark at first it is now my 2nd choice, I have decided to buy the Nolan. I'll do some searching online to find a good price and decide which colour I want and then I'll get it ordered. I really hope the helmet works well on the Strom.

I ended up ordering the Nolan N85 from a web shop in Germany called http://www.motoin.de
The picture below is the colour/style I ordered, bit over budget, but I'm happy that I still kept it under £200. If I was less bothered with the colour I could have become away from less than £150, but I'd taken a liking to the orange one   Paid £194.12 delivery included, hopefully I still think it's excellent value for the money after I've used the helmet for a few months.

ps. Does anyone use the N-COM thing with these, is any opinions on the N-COM system?

Nice looking lid! Congrats on the purchase, hope it serves you well.

The n-com is a ball ache to fit but apparently work quite well.
From what I've heard!

Been reading about the N-COM stuff, you need to buy something called a Basic Kit2 which is the speakers and the mic. With this you can wire in your MP3 player or phone. By itself it's apparently a bit sh*tty, there is no amplification so you need to buy the Bluetooth Kit2.1. This gives you bluetooth linking to your phone/GPS via handsfree protocol and bluetooth music link via the A2DP protocol (or use the cable still if you prefer.) Additionally the Bluetooth Kit2.1 does the amplifying so that you can hear things at more than 40 mph. From what I could figure out from online reviews it works quite well if you have both bits. Bit expensive though, I think I will look at alternative solutions, I really just want to listen to music and I don't need to hear the satnav, I'm used to just looking at it.

Not much more too see than in the picture I previously posted. I'm going to ride with it a few days and then I'll post a review. I might put pictures in then to show some of the specific features. First impressions are good so far.

Well, it's going back as 'unused' even though I used it on the way home, on the way to work today and will have to use it on the way home today too.

The Good:
It's very comfortable, 2nd time wearing it and I'm happy with the fit. It hugs your head nicely and has two "bumps" at the back, either side, that makes it feel like your whole head is held in the helmet. The liner is comfy, soft with no seams that bother at all. The helmet feels like it weighs less than my Shoei even thought it weighs 30g more and is very balanced when on your head. The aerodynamics are superb, it eliminated the last little bit of buffeting I had.

The top vents are great, better than the Shoei. If you look into the inside of the helmet you can see the air channels going see right through the helmet. The top vents work in two ways, you can press at the back of them and the front lifts up to scoop air into the helmet, this works extremely well and I had to close it after 2 minutes this morning because what's left of my brain was freezing. If you press on the front of the vent to close them the rear has a slit that is now open and instead of scooping air in it sucks air out by venturi effect! On top of that there is a slider that you can move back to close the slit for the venturi position and the vent is closed completely, ingenious

The chin vent directs air right into the mouth area and up onto the inside of the visor. Because I sit behind a screen none of the chin vents on any of my helmets ever work as intended, but I did blow through it with my mouth and the air flow is unrestricted and I'd wager it works great on a naked bike or with the screen in a lower position.

The forehead vent is effective, it channels air into the cushion that's presses against your forehead and I could feel it getting cold when I tried it out so it works.

Closing the vents blocks out air and water, tested this in heavy rain this morning and they are water tight when closed even though the top ones look like they will leak. There is also a large rear spoiler with a permanently open rear extraction vent under it. The vents make surprisingly little noise when open considering that they work so well. The top vent on the Qwest is more noisy and doesn't work as good as the top vents on the N85.

On the subject of noise, the helmet doesn't have as much wind rush noise as my Quest, but I can hear the engine and other sounds a little bit better. I had the chin curtain on this morning and was perfectly happy with the noise levels.

The visor is new so it's nice and clear, no distortion and easy to operate with either hand because the tab is in the middle. The internal sun visor works better than expected, but has a niggle that I will discuss later. It operates very easily by a slider on the left and is just dark enough to be of enough use in very bright sunlight although I would like a darker one. I am light sensitive so it will be fine for most other people. The main visor is easily removed and replaced with out any tools once you figure out how to (tip: read the manual first then do it, not the other way around :shy: ) The pinlock type insert works very well and you don't even notice it's there unless you strain to look left and right with your eyes. The view port in the helmet looks a bit narrower (top to bottom) than my Qwest, but I didn't feel as if it restricted my view at all.

The ratchet closing system is very adjustable and easy to close and open, with a bit of practise you could probably do it with one hand.

Finish on the helmet is quite good, the paint is vibrant and the graphics are quite detailed. Handling the helmet you know that it's not from the bottom of the quality pond, the lining has a real quality feel and gives the feel that the helmet is much more expensive than what I paid for it (it's better than the Qwest, but I don't know how well it stands up to regular use.)

And maybe most important of all, you feel safe wearing it, even if it's just a perception (4 stars SHARP rating.)

The Bad:
There are 3 things that is making me return this helmet. The first and main reason is that the visor leaks when it rains, I started off at home today in light rain and it was fine for a while. On the M40 things got gradually worse as I got closer to Reading. By the time I got onto the M4 I had a drop going down the inside of the helmet every 5-10 seconds. The drops runs down and leaks out the bottom again, but the water streaks left eventually causes the visor to mist up. By the time I got to Reading the visibility was so bad because of misting and distortion caused by the drops inside the helmet that I had to slow down quite a lot. I checked the visor, it appears to seal properly and there is no way to adjust it.

The second and equally important thing is the ratchet closing system. I was fine with the idea of a ratchet as opposed to a double D-ring system because I thought it would give enough adjustment. It does give enough adjustment, but no matter how tight/loose I close it or how I adjust it there is a problem. If I look down slightly my chin presses the hard plastic and metal bits that make up the ratchet closing system into my hyoid bone. This is causing me a lot of discomfort and touching it now I can feel it is bruised.

The third thing is something I could have lived with if everything else was fine. If you look at the picture I posted earlier you will see that the sun visor has a curve cut into the bottom of it "for the nose." The cut out is a bit distracting, the visor would be much better if it didn't have this cut out at all. The edges of the sun visor causes a little bit of distortion (as with the edges on any visor) and the cut out's edges is right where you want to look when you check the clocks. So if there wasn't a cut out it would be fine. There is plenty of space for a nose, I can't imagine anyone having a nose so big that you'd need to have the cut out in the visor. I can only think that they did it so that it shapes with the little bump on the chin bar. In making the cut out so the sun visor looks better and fits with the lines in the helmet they have spoiled an otherwise great visor design.

The Ugly:
There's no Ugly unless you don't like orange lol

So if if it didn't leak and if it had a double D-ring and if there wasn't a stupid sun visor cut out wasn't there it would be the best helmet for the money.

After riding home with the helmet on I have to add some amendments...

The top vents are only quieter than the Qwest top vent if you use them with the venturi effect, if they are pushed up so that they scoop air they are louder, but not disturbingly so. It seems the top vents, the ones I thought look like they can leak, did let in some water. I noticed it when I used the sun visor this afternoon, water had dried on half of the visor making it hazy to look through.

Hi Juv
How are you getting on with the new Lid? - I like the colour - it would match my bike!!
I'm in similar situation to you, I would like flip down sun visor but also want quiet. Am also thinking ahead regarding intercom - then I could speak to DiviDoris!!!
I've tried the Shoei ?? X1100 ? (not sure about that - it's the model above the Qwest) and really like the fit/weight.
