Alpinestars Web, Effex or Oxtar/TCX MAtrix opinions
« on: August 11, 2011, 10:43:24 »
Has anybody here have anything (good or bad) to say about those boots?
My 6 year old Daytona Big Travel started leaking like a sieve so I need a replacement before the rainy season starts.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Not sure about the other brands you mentioned, have used Alpinestars Sports & MX boots before.......very good boots.
Since moving over to the Strom from sports bikes I bought a pair of these, Sidi Courier's.

Very comfortable on & off the bike, bit heavier than I'm used to but very happy with them :thumb:

Edit:- Got mine from here http://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/56284

I've got the Sidi Adventures and I am very happy with them.  They are completely waterproof, well I've never got wet yet, and as long as I wear a decent pair of socks in the winter they are fine. They look just like the MX version but with out the metal on the toe, they are quite pricey but worth it if you ask me.

I have a pair of Alpinestar Web goretex boots.  Had them for about 4 years not every day use but quite regular, and still excellent.  They have a half height zip which is then covered by a velcroed leather flap running the full height.
Size appears slightly generous.  Not flash like some but good basic quality, and does the job.

You can get Daytona boots refurbished. I found this out when I went to buy some new ones, although it would not have worked out much cheaper than new as my 12 year old boots needed zips, toe pads and soles so I just bought a new pair.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

Thanks for your input gents.
I did consider TCX Infinity but the buckle closing system put me off, preferring a simple zip & velcro flap.

In the end I ordered a pair of Alpine* Effex from a Honda dealership in a coastal town in southern England, they came in yesterday, great service except . . . the boots don't match!

The right one was made in Romania and fits perfectly, whereas the left comes from China, seems half a size larger, with the inner side including velcro flap made of suede.

Well, if they can't swap a Chinese for a Romanian, I will be asking for a refund

Alpine* Web is my second choice, heard a lot of good about them.

The ill fitting pair of Effex has been replaced with a pair of Web for a discounted price.

They fit perfectly and are very comfortable to walk around the house in, will test ride them tomorrow (in the rain as forecast) but can't see any issues. The shafts are about 1.5 ins. shorter than my Daytona Big Travel but the shin armour should still provide enough protection.

Just an update on the Webs.

They are lighter and more supple than the Daytona Big TRavel GTX I was used to but still provide adequate protection. They feel more comfortable to walk in too, I could cover a longer distance on foot wearing them if I was forced to.
I haven't had a chance to prove their prolonged resistance to water yet although rode in a shower or two without any leaks. Must remember not to try testing them by riding through a deep puddle following heavy rainfall with leather trousers tucked inside the boots, doh!

BTW, enquired at my nearest HG shop about the possibility of refurbishing the Daytonas, the cost of a new sole and waterproof Goretex liner including shipping to Germany and VAT is £133.

Going sideways on makes I can recommend Alt-Berg boots - feel like slippers, hand made, waterproof if you buy the ones with a membrane and about £150.
Also if anything wears out - don't buy new boots - take back and get the part that needs it fixing or replacing e.g. re-sole'ing.

I love mine so far...

they also supply to the armed forces and know their stuff. If you visit the shop they measure your feet properly and make to measure...
