My own aerofoil/laminar lip
« on: July 01, 2011, 09:49:36 »
I have a few days off work and an old visor. I think I will entertain myself by making my own aerofoil, laminar lip etc. I remember reading somewhere (either here or on VSRI) about someone who had done the same thing but I can't find the post anywhere.

Anyone remember anything about such a project, or got any ideas, or done it yourself?

I'll post a few pics if I manage it.

Cheers.

I've seen a version with a 6x4 lump of amber plexiglass screwed to 2 hand clamps (the orange and black things you get form the £ shop that work like a clothes peg!!)

OK I've done it. The result is: aesthetically, agricultural; practically, perfect!

I also placed three rubber tap washers under the screen at the bottom. I could not get them under the holder as I wanted the screen on the middle position.

I've also ordered Aprillia Tuono mirrors: £30 delivered. So far, the difference is incredible. The screen mod cost me a fiver for the washers. I know it doesn't look great but it works and is cheaper than a Madstad and Vario screen - I used an old visor off a helmet I wasn't using anymore.

HAHA, looks better than the clampit version I saw, it looks quite convincing actually.

The Tuono mirrors are great, but they don't seem to nip up as well as I would have liked so put a rew rounds of PTFE tape on the stem. Not sure of buffeting change, but they don't vibrate anywhere near as much as stock!!!
