Good pair of summer gloves?
« on: June 14, 2011, 15:52:38 »
blokes,

myself and the Mrs are doing a trip to South Africa in December and are on the look out for some good hot weather gloves.

We have been advised leather is a bad idea for these temps and that textile is best.  Most light fabric gloves seem to lack decent armour.

Anyone got any experience with anything they may feel suitable?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. :ty:

I'm going to South Africa in November and I'll be using my normal leather summer gloves, maybe that's stupid? I might have to look into some better gloves for the climate. I'm South African and I'm sure I'll still feel the heat being very acclimatised to UK weather after 6 or so years here. If you have a choice, ride a bike that doesn't have hand guards that shield the wind off, getting the wind on your hands helps a lot.

Where will you be riding?

I'm using Hein Gericke Spyder (part no - 11727803) gloves for the summer. They are leather but perforated and shot wrist length to let a bit breeze up the sleeve. They're thin and breath really well and at £40 a go won't break the bank. I tried some Alpinestars leather / textile mix gloves last year but they were a lot more 'sweaty' than these.

I use Rayven Talon Summer motorcycle gloves (type this in ebay), very light, well vented, short cuff, good protection for £30 or so, and find them very good.

Have a good trip

Forgot to say that if buying order a size larger than your normal gloves, the large (my normal) was too tight and xl was great

I use the Alpinestar smx-2's in real hot weather, they have good protection and are nice and cool to wear.

They last well too.

do any of these have the little finger attached to the next one to protect it?

I came off last year and my little finger was dislocated as it scraped down the road.

I have seen some where the last two fingers are attached to give the little finger more strength.

seems a good idea to me now I know

I thought that ! Just read an article by the gadgie that started Dainese (Mr Dainese ?) and they reckon the opposite ? Their plan is, yes, you'll break the little feller, but if they're tethered you'll break both ? Makes sense in a way, when Your think about it ?

My favourite summer glove is the Richa Magma:

Not the coolest glove around (but breezy enough if you remove your handguards) but feel really sturdy and are the comfiest gloves I've owned.
