Anakee 2s
« on: May 25, 2011, 13:59:42 »
I've never seemed to have major problems with trailwingsbut there are a few bends where I need to manhandle the bike, especially on righthanders and at bike meets I felt I was a little slower through the bends than my group generally. I've put 7500 miles on them, loads of tread on the rear but square as anything, on the
front the tread was nearly down to the wear bars on the offside but plenty on the nearside. I have read of people getting 11-12000 miles out of the rear
Anyhow, my new mechanic suggested that despite being still legal the bike would handle much better with some new rubber so rather than go for Battlewings I took the advice of the  forum and got myself a pair of Michelin Anakees. The difference is tremendous. I've put 35 miles on them this morning (taking it easy on the new rubber) but the
bends around Rivington flow much better, as do really tight righthanders and roundabouts. Also gone is some of the slow speed (<5mph) wobble that I used to get from the front.
So this time I'm blaming the equipment
Of course this just could be new rather than worn tyres but I don't remember it handling this well last year

It's amazing how badly a bike steers with squared off rubber. A new set of tyres is like having a new bike !

+1 put a set of these on last week, the new tyres plus a Richland Rick fork brace the difference is outstanding. Really is like a new bike, never realised how squared of the rear tyre was.

I don't know about you but because tyres go off slowly I tend to adapt and accomodate and really don't notice much change......until the new ones go on. The I couldn't agree more, it completely revitalises the bike. I have to say though, I still have the original trailwings on the KLV which I bought in January and I don't think they ar all that bad. I seem to get plenty of grip and they are still a nic smooth curved profile, but I don't spend much time with the bike in a vertical position

In agreement with the above - I find the oe t'wings pretty good. In comparison with my last bike's oe rubber (cbf1000 on BT57's), the difference when I first rode the wee was amazing! Still, once they wear out I'll be trying out the anakee's.

currently I have the trail versions of the Pilot Road - same radial carcus as the Anakee's but the tread pattern of the Pilot Road with greater tread depth.

but my point being that my rear isn't going to make it to the other end of the summer, I know I can Pilot Road 2/3 on the rear as the orriginal Pilot road trail have been replaced and I don't like the look of the tread pattern. anyone tried Anakee's directly after using road pilots (another bike maybe) and how did they feel?
the road pilots I love but feel like getting a bit more off the tarmac.

certainly good in the dry. First real wet run today, absolutely peeing down and feel very confident

Got annekee 2 on my 650 now , the front took a while to get confident with but great now ,wanted to turn far to tight at first .
Is it me but the tread pattern on the rear goes opposite way to the front .have checked the mounting arrows and they are correct

I think they are designed like that because of water moving, something about the front wheel making a clear strip for the rear to follow in when you're riding in the wet. Another interesting thing is also that the front and rear uses different compounds, makes good sense, they do different jobs.

it's quite common to have opposing treads f+r on mountainbike tyres, quite often you might buy two of the same but mount them in opposite directions for f+r. My guess is that the front is used for stopping and the rear is used for speeding up, so the grip is required in opposite directions, just a guess though

Did you fit these yourself Chris, or get a shop to do them? I am after new tyres for the Wee, but I can seem to find anyone with anything other than tourances in Newcastle.

Thanks

Ben

Hi Ben, pop in to see Darren at Newsham Motorcycles on Your way home from work one night. He's a good lad and will get you anything you want at a decent price. Just make sure you go round the back (mrs) as the front of the shop is always locked.
