Not sure I understand?

I am not sure I understand this issue with the screen.

I run a 1000gt with the standard screen in the lowest position and get wind to my chest and shoulders, but only the same as any other bike I have had (mostly 4 cylinder sports tourers).

I was discussing the issue with another 1000gt owner who is a similar height and he complains of "buffeting".

When I dud further what he seemed to describe as buffeting just seemed to be normal bike wind resistance for me.  He seemed to be looking for a screen which would eliminate the wind hitting him.

My question is, have I just got used to the wind resistance after years of riding bikes with a lean and smaller screens?  The thought of eliminating wind resistance on a bike seems a bit of a shame to me.

Before I get blasted, this is just a question, I'm not trying to teach my Granny how to suck eggs!!

it sounds like the other rider is getting confused between 'wind' and 'buffeting'

I've just posted on a similar thread, but on my old K2, with a tall touring screen, the buffeting was so bad at 70mph it would give me blurred vision and headache after an hour. It was as if someone had taken a pneumatic drill to my lid. A lower screen helped greatly by reducing the turbulence hitting my lid. My K7 with a madstad is much better in all respects. I guess it can depend on what you are used to, how quickly you travel, how tall you are, how you sit on the bike, what kind of helmet you use etc.

It looks like some people are unlucky that their combination of height, riding position, helmet and screen causes bad buffeting. If I use the standard screen on the standard mount on any setting my vision is blurred and I get a headache very quickly, feels like your brain is shaking (yes I have one )

I am 6'6"... standard screen...
Just put the bracket, so the top 2 holes, are "above" the clock cluster, and screw it on... then put the screen on the highest holes you can get (sorry... LOWEST holes, making the screen HIGHER) and screw it all together, with the plastic trim things on the screen...

I get minimal, if no buffetting... and I do serious amounts of mileage... at 70+...
But like it says above... it all depends on how you sit, where you sit, your lid, etc etc etc...
Just have a play, and get it right for you... but try my set up... it works for me... so it might work for you...

No bigfoot there is definitely something calle "buffeting", on the test ride I took on the strom, std screen at highest level it was unreal, I have never felt that before and the only way I can describe it was a monkey behind me slapping my helmet with a pair of trainers . It was mad and very very annoying.
That was my only bad view on the strom so I bought one figuring ill sort the screen out some how, with the 650 X screen it doesn't do it so I'm happy enough and its just in the standard height/position.

I have a Madstad and an MP cycle design tall screen,I'm 6'1" and wear a filp up lid which I can
leave in the up position to about 80mph, it took a bit of trial and error with positioning but I have found
"no buffeting nirvana",when you finally find it its fantastic.

I got the V-strom after a naked bike, an FMX650. The FMX's riding position pretty much turns the rider in a human sail - you couldn't really be more in the wind and anything over 70 and you got blasted with air. However unlike the V-strom you didn't feel like someone was hitting you about the head with something and on the FMX you could ride with visor up at about 40-50mph. No buffeting just good old wind blast.

Testrode the X model before I bought the Wee, not a problem with buffeting, but not a lot of wind protection. However for me at least the standard screen just doesn't work, even took a ride without any screen and it was a big improvement. In the end I decided on the tall MRA, doesn't look great but is only slight more expensive than the X screen and solves virtually all the buffeting problems (for me at least).

I had some issues when I bought my k2 (older 04 plate model) it had a bailey screen on it and for me it was noisy and a little bit of an head banger, in the end I've settled with standard size screen and cut it down by around 60mm

Screens are such a personal issue it's difficult to know where to start. I swapped bikes with a freind last year and he could not beleive the amount of noise and buffeting. I thought I had acheived screen nirvana with a tall MRA on the second highest setting with the spoiler fully up. My pal is only 3" shorter at 5'11" but it made it unbearable for him but great for me, weird. I think experimentation is the key  

P.S. having some screen 'issues' with the Guzzi, got the MRA spoiler only on order to go on my Givi as MRA don't make a screen for the Guzzi...
