High Beam / Spot Lights Fitted
« on: November 30, 2008, 10:26:13 »
Here's a few photo's of the spot lights I have added. (There's a link and other detail in another post).

I have wired them to the high beam. (yellow wire on the head lights wiring, with a relay to the battery).

The lights can be used as low beam "driving lights" as well. The have a small removeable plate inside that means they can convert from having  focused low beam or when removed a normal spot light beam. I have opted to use them in high beam/spot light mode.

I mounted them on the flat plates that connect the (Suzuki) engine bars to the frame.

Hi, I ordered them on line from

http://www.triumph-online.co.uk/sw-mote ... 2378-p.asp

They were £99.

The wiring was that great that was supplied, unless you wan them on a switch. I extended the wiring, then heat shrinked the whole lot and and added it to the high beem with a relay.

About 4 hours work.

Hope that helps

I might be wrong, but they look exactly the same as the ones you can get in Halfords for £30, but repackaged.

Anyone know if they're any different/better to justify the £100?

One to watch out for is your total wattage consumption.

The V Strom (Pre 08) outputs at 375 Watts using 200 Watts as default. This leaves you spare capacity of 175 Watts to play with. If you have heated grips, these pull about another 40 Watts.

Auxillary lights will push another 110 Watts if you go for 2 x 55 Watt lights leaving only 25 Watts left for Sat Nav and additional accessories.

Work your power consumption out before investing. If pushing the limit, it may be advisable to have 2 x 35 Watt auxillary lights instead.

Regards, Mad Dog

I'll answer my own question... having just bought and received my own set, they are certainly better than the Halfords ones!

They look very similar, but feel better made and come with all the necessary wiring, fuses, relay and handlebar switch.

Now to figure out how the fit them!
