MRA Vario Touring - smoked or clear?
« on: September 29, 2010, 22:39:16 »
Having read all the previous threads I will be ordering the 20' MRA Vario screen shortly.

Does anyone have any views on clear screen v smoked.  I am thinking clear as by the look of it in lower positions you need to look through both the screen and the the lip spoiler, is that right?  Must be smoked x double thickness.

Any views?

Thanks :eusa-think:

I didn't realise that they came in clear. I'm guessing these are a new addition to the range?
Don't tend to look through mine much & think the smoked looks better anyway. But just my opinion....

(BTW I'm 6 foot tall & have mine (20 inch) on the middle setting - so plenty of adjustment available)

Yes, tinted at the base of the screen only, main section is clear.

They need to be ordered so 10 days delay over the smoked one.

I didn't know you could get them in clear, I'd still have taken the smoked one, but in hindsight I'd have become the clear one if I had to pick one now. Looking through the smoked one at the road very near to you when you go slow is a bit difficult when the light is fading (think: trying to avoid drain covers in the wet when riding slowly in a residential area with narrow twisty streets.) Otherwise I'm happy with the smoked screen :)

I ordered the clear at the finish last week, it arrived this afternoon so will be fitting it tomorrow.

I think clear was the right choice but had to wait a few days for delivery.  Will post up how it goes when fitted.

I just ordered the smoked one from HPS, can't wait longer than a few days after I paid for something. I want it NOW   . Hopefully here before weekend, will post some pics when I fitted it.  :lala:

I am 6 ft tall so went for middle position as most others seem to.

To be honest finding it a little high, fine on the fast smooth stuff but too high everywhere else.  BUT having just tried it on a rutted country road in the dark... plane scary, couldn't see the close proximity road surface even with the clear screen.

Will be setting it on the low height and doing the washer thing to angle it back a little and that should sort it out nicely. :fix:

Stand up?    actually being vaugely serious for a change too, if the road surface is that bad I find standing on the pegs gives a much clearer veiw, keeps the speed to sensible ish levels and give me good control over the bike, may just be me though    That way you also get to keep the benefits of the lovely MRA ;)

I personally have it on the middle with some washers which works out well :)

Mine turned up at 10 am today, great service from HPS, ordered it at 1330 Monday with standard delivery.  Fitted it lunch time and looks good, driving home was cracking, visor up all the way and no dirty air. No problem with vision, the tint is very light, looking forward to first long run. Very happy with it, I'm 183cm (6ft) have it on the middle setting and "wing" 2 clicks up from lowest position.
Will post pics when I get some time to take a couple.   :auto-dirtbike:  :auto-dirtbike:

All sorted for me... tall screen, on low position, adjustable lip middle stop for local stuff, all the way up motorways.

Juvecu I followed your tip from the 'way to go' thread and packed out with washers, a couple at the top 7 at the base.  Much much better.  Good airflow and can see much better as well.  Thanks for posting that.

Happy bunny !! :ty:  :thumb:

You're welcome, nice to know it helped someone else   I'm considering investing in a Madstad, just to get that last little bit of smoothness and adjusting. I also bought a big barn door Givi screen for the winter and I think I'll need the Madstad for that (any excuse to justify buying some more goodies.)

After a few too many vinos I ordered a 16" MRA screen. Am now worried I should have got a 20 " one. I am 5'8" of medium build and have a DL650 x 09. Any advice? Could phone them up and change order.

Thanks!!

I think the standard one should be fine for you, if not, should be easy to sell/swap on here.

reading what's been written I concluded the 16" one seems best for me - 5'10"

so 5'8" should be fine

logic says if I want 20"on bottom setting I can't then lower it if it is in way of line of sight

must say though - haven't bought it yet

Thinking about getting a MRA Vario for a trip around Europe. Is this the best screen?
Smoke or clear? Not liking the idea of not seeing directly in front of me if I have the smoked screen in low light. Any suggestions welcome

Most seem to think the MRA is best but some prefer Givi.

On smoked v clear, I got the MRA in clear for two reasons:

1. visibility is a little better - especially at night pot holes and ruts in the road are easier to see.

2. I wanted to occasionally use a video through the screen.  This def. better but it depends if you need this.

The only down side is the darker screen looks a little better on the bike.

The smoked is 'standard' so I had to order the clear version, but only took a few days.
