Continental Road Attacks
« on: June 30, 2010, 22:06:32 »
Yes Yes Yes,

So far so good, 100 miles in, plenty of grip.  can't wait to see how good they become.  Lots of tread and the rubber is very soft.  Already almost ripped the writing off the main tread

Bike tips in faster and holds a line well.
I'll report back when I've tested them in the wet.

100 miles in, started to rain, tyres coped very well even though they are still very new.  I made the right decision, but they are going to wear out fast!!

You'll be going through footpegs quicker than tyres !!!

There's the rub!! I've got very used to Tyres that last for 6-7K miles and a litre twin is violent on rear Tyres if ... erm .... abused

And two things about sports Tyres for me personally, one is the look of them which is vain I know but I love the chunky look. The other is the simple fact a daft looking soft roader will never be able to use sports Tyres in the same way a sportsbike does, it's a question of suspension and physical geometry with a high center of gravity stopping the serious lean angles and grip requirements that a serious tyre provides.

I figure if I can scrap the pegs on chunky Battlewings, how much lower could I actually go?

Naive?
Grrrr:-)

to be honest I've still not got the pegs down, but on these it's only a matter of time.  I went to hartside after work today and the bike was great.  Although in the hairpins the tyres need a lot of persuading to lean over a lot.  They tip in fast but then need a lot of wrestling (getting used to it).  I also noticed that at 120 (kph officer) there is a bit of a wobble, but I don't care.  After 2 days there is about 5 mil of chicken strip left on the rear and they absolutely rock.  I've already ripped most of the the writing off the tread though!!

These aren't meant to be sports tyres but I think they are very soft and conti make them sport touring by having a lot of tread on them to use up (about 6-7mm).  Truly fantastic road only tyres though, as long as you aren't freaked out by the speed at which they tip into corners!!

I'm thinking about getting the Trail Attacks. Been told they're similar to road attacks but with even more tread (9mm on the rear). Any idea what they're like?

I looked at those, I think they are the same type of rubber so they will grip nice, bigger tread blocks as you say so I would expect them to wander off line a little bit more and make a bit more noise.  Good choice though I reckon if you want to go off road a bit.

Hi,
I'm on my second rear Trail attack and still on my first front, I managed nearly ten thousand miles from the rear and have done thirteen thousand on the front with a little bit left!
The conti is a far better tyre than the standard bridgstone the strom came with but as I don't do any off road, at all, I was thinking about running the road attacks next and it's good to see some positive feedback for them on our bike.
There is meant to be a road attack 2 out now anybody know anything about them or tried these yet?
Cheers,
Mark

I think I have the standard RA's but they grip good, apparently the trail attacks are the same compound but bigger tread blocks and more tread, grip well though, try some.

500 miles in, brilliant, wet or dry.  Soft soft soft.  The hooners choice I suspect.
However, at walking speed or less the front weaves slowly, wierd.  Also (flat out on a track) there is a tiny wobble, I'll report back if its worse pillioned up and loaded when I do Scotland next month.

1500 miles in, just done a 2 up 1018 mile tour.  They are squaring a bit so will need some rounding now!!  Very soft tyre, rear wearing like crazy front still has nobbles on!!

May need something with many compounds next!!

Great in wet and dry though so can't complain

Hello,

I've got some Continental Road Attack 2 ready to go on. I went on the launch on them earlier in the year for RiDE/MCN/Motorcycle Monthly and British Dealer News. You can read the RiDE review here http://www.cambriantyres.co.uk/continental/54702 if you're bored.

Avon Storms have still been the best tyre I've used on the V-Strom, both on the 19in and 17in front wheels. The current 17in is 12,000 miles old, but just got an advisory from the bike's first MoT. It is toast. But with the Storms on the original wheels I got the pillion pegs down with the wife on the back (she's not fat, by the way!). Best rear lasted just over 7000 miles.
