New Bloke, I'm Danny
« on: October 31, 2008, 18:09:38 »
Hello All

As you can guess my name is Danny and I have a V-Strom 1000 GT K7 in Blue.
I've swapped over from Kawasaki Ninja Supersports bike cos I'm getting old.  :old:
I ride everyday and in all weathers, :rain:  you've got to love the heated grips.  The comfort on the vstrom and the riding position can't be beat.  I normally get about 42 m.p.g on a mixed motorway and town ride.
I took my Kawasaki in for a service and got given a weestrom (dl600) as a loaner, I didn't want to give it back, on collecting my Ninja I traded it in for a vstrom.

I've had my vstrom since january this year, it's a K7, '57 but registered in '08.
I've been through France, Belgium and Luxemborg on it and felt totaly comfy the whole way. However when pushed hard in the twisty bits I only got 95 miles out of a full tank!! :yikes:

I had a major spill on it in June where I ran over a cat!!   :dmn: The cat got caught between my front wheel and the mud guard and caused a front wheel skid.  I went down hard  :limp:  and did £3300 worth of damage to my bike (not happy) the insurance took care of it and fitted a totaly new front end.  It now rides like new again.
I fitted a T.R.E. that I bought off of e-bay. I can honestly say it was the best £20 I have ever spent!! It totaly made the ride a smoother experiance, I've not lost or gained any m.p.g. but its an unbelievable difference. I highly recommend getting one.  If anyone wants to know where I got it from or how to fit it, let me know.  Fitting is so easy any only takes minutes, even for a techno muppet like me!

I've also fitted a front mudguard extenda, I had crash bars fitted from new. I'm looking for other bits to add to it now.
hopefully I'll find loads of helpful hint and bits and bobs on this forum :metal:

cheers

T.R.E. came from (fl)e bay "TRE GSX1400 TL1000 DL1000 SV1000 GSXR 600 1000 HAYABUSA
SMART TRE FOR Suzuki'S (TIMING RETARD ELIMINATOR) Item number: 300262527680 "

comes with instructions that have nothing to do with a vstrom!  I have piccys and can describe how to fit if needed.

Its a Timing Retard Eliminator,  the vstrom 1000 is restricted in the first 3 gears and in overdrive, The tre de-restricts the engine and releases full power (don't expect power slides and non-stop wheelies, its still totaly controlable) It makes the ride SO much smoother and eases out the tick-over.  You lose the overdrive light in top gear but the mpg doesn't change either.  The throttle becomes much smoother and responsive.  Don't leave it in when you go for a warranty service cos it will cancel your warranty (but it only takes minutes to put on and take off) you can get them with a gear indicator or without.  A HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BIT OF KIT!! :lala:
