Channel 4 showing the 1943 film "San Demetrio". I saw it as a boy in the mid 1950s and laughed at the shipwrecked sailor I the drifting lifeboat who couldn't eat a biscuit because left his teeth on his sinking ship. Tonight it brought a tear to my eye as I appreciate more and more what the previous generations did and the sacrifices that were made to save me from a lifetime of servitude under a tyranny.
