Paris Motorcycle Parking..
« on: June 30, 2025, 14:52:44 »
Hello folks, heading into Paris in a couple of weeks, it’s been a while since I’ve done so and I understand the rules around parking motorcycles in the street have changed, any of you have recent experience.?
I fear you can no longer dump it where you like..
I’ll obvs be getting a Crit D’Air (I’m guessing my ‘13 Glee is Euro3 compliant).
going to find a hotel somewhere in the Montmatre district.
Probably looking at a weekend visit.

It's pay parking in Paris only, no pavement or bicycle bays. Your bike could be taken away if illegally parked. Visitors rate is 3€ per hour in the most popular arrondissements, Eiffel and Monmartre for example. Your hotel should be able to tell you cheaper parks in the area.

My L5 650 is Crit'Air 2 (higher the number the more polluting, starts at 5) and usually that's OK on bad days but you'll need check which categories are allowed to circulate each day.

Beware of pick-pockets and sales scams!
So how's it going so far then?

You're not selling France to us Joe. Perhaps you're not trying too?
Paid parking for bikes? Pffffffftttttt. Although I acknowledge this is becoming more common place and I came across it in Yorkshire recently, we didn't pay!
Crit Air may or may not allow you to get to your destination? Pffffffftttttt. Surely not. I read that the city has been particularly bad in the recent warm spell, does this mean as a tourist you wouldn't be able to get to your hotel? That would be annoying.
If all that doesn't keep us away you'll be scammed and robbed upon arrival!
Pffffffftttttt.

Just saying how it is Upt North. It is Paris afterall.

You are correct though, I wouldn't recommend riding (or driving) in cities, two of my offspring use public transport when ever possible despite having car driving licenses.

Crit 'Ait keeps more polluting vehicles out of already polluted cities and has nothing to do with why you're going there so I guess you could be stopped from getting to your hotel if your vehicle pollutes too much. It would then be park outside of the city and use public transport. I agree, not at all ideal!

I'll sell France to you if you'll come ride out in the countryside on virtually empty roads anytime.  :thumb:

Joe, we enjoyed our time riding through bits of FrenchLand last year on our way to and back from Sicily. It was more by accident than planning that we ended up there, Austria and the South Tyrol were off bounds due to bloody awful weather. Pffffffftttttt.
We popped into Dole for a night on the way down and then two nights on the way back up when the Dolomites were experiencing unseasonal snow and cold. We also found some very good food on the way back although I'm buggered if I can remember where we stayed.
Was it Troyes......maybe.....

Paris is to France, as London is to England….. no reflection on the rest of the country.😉

......or its people.
I really wouldn't fancy riding or parking in central London. Throw in a completely different legal system, potential misunderstandings due to language and the different road systems, I'd definitely give it a miss. I don't even like the Périphérique, never mind diving into the heart of Paris.

From a foreigners point of view you're quite right RN. Cultural differences apply too, moreso when they are just slightly different like attitude, courtesy and tolerance. I see it from both sides.  :icon_wink:

I personally think French drivers and riders are some of the most switched on and courteous in Europe. They seems to have eyes in their arris and see you early and do everything they can to assist your progress.
Although the amount of alcohol drunk from Breakfast to Supper is a concern, but only if it's not me.

Excluding you of course  , your last sentence has had me asking 'how would you know?'

Well, what do you know that I don't after my 30 years here?

Joseph me o'd mucka.
Whenever we stop in Café Francais s'il vous plâit, it doesn't matter what time of day, from breakfast on; the locals are always drinkin little glasses of some'at. It's not wine, I presume local liqueurs or brandies, now the car parks are full of motors and everyone is drinkin so I'm guessing it's them.
They're very sociable in the caffs too, they're the only places I've had my hand shaken numerous times by complete strangers. Er'Indoors too, they're not sexist. Although I can comprehend little French, why would I, I'm a brit abroad, they'll talk to you endlessly.
They're probably calling me an English pig, but they do it in a nice way.
The more I think about France the more I think I enjoy it, I'll stop that post Brexit thinking forthwith.

Quite true Upt. This was from a trip in The Alps (2018)
We'd been on the road around an hour & needed a coffee, I can't remember the exact time but I'd say between 09.30 & 10.00?

Hmmm, you got him! Hang on, just the one, an oap maybe, no keys on the table and not a vehicle in sight. He's just off to get his baguette I'm sure.  lol
