Any of you follow this channel? Here's a teaser for a new video which came out yesterday.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/pd2DQ8lciHo

He puts the universe into understandable dimensions. He's done several videos so far.
So how's it going so far then?

I thought I'd get a positive from 2112 but maybe not Alien enough?

Anyway, this notion we have that big numbers (and distances) are incomprehensible I managed to get a 'billion' into my field of view with something we have all experiencd and know the value. Are you ready for this? 1 second! Yes, 60 to one minute, 60 minutes to the hour and 24 hours per day.

1 million seconds will take 11.5 days to pass.........

1 billion seconds will take 31.7 years to pass........

In the Epic Spaceman's videos he uses a piece of breakfast cereal to define the size of a galaxy, you'll have to watch a couple of his vids to see now big the observable universe is.  :icon_wink:

Grrrr........UNIVERSE........Grrrrrr.

Sorry.

I know I have lost this battle but universe used to mean everything unbound.Including what is beyond the Hubblesphere and pocket universes. Now we also have quantum universes to contend with :GRR: , every time a quantum event happens ,say, a particle spinning left instead of right we have another new "universe".
Multiverses.....HAH.....I spit on your Multiverse
Nope ...all part of the big ol infinite same one.
I know  having many universes is used to help in thought experiments but it still annoys me...
And saying we can't interact with them so they are separate......OK ......but who says that will always be the case.

Pet peeve over :icon_wink:

At least I have gained an hour to think about it this morning.

There is only one question left in the universe; is the 'What are you listening to right now' thread of sufficient length to accomodate all of nigel's posts. I don't know where he finds the time for all that listening or is he living proof of the existence of infinity?

 lol

Joe , the thing with an infinite universe is while there may well be infinite Me's ...there is also infinite music :icon_wink:

As to finding the time... That bit is easy, my work contract may say " Nigel is employed to build boats for 39 hrs a week ",or some such, but I have two workshops ( one inside the other ) both wired up with my old stereo from home ( a classic Rotel 4 channel amp and Mission speakers...nice ) and so I actually get PAID to listen to whatever takes my fancy :icon_wink:
