House Plants
« on: October 05, 2024, 13:01:37 »
A week ago I took a cutting off a friends money plant. I bought a bag of compost from garden centre and a small pot then planted the cutting. I then noticed lots of fungus flies in the compost.

I have since used all methods advised online to get rid of them but so far I've failed. I decided to dump the compost in the pot and replant with fresh. Low and behold I found that the compost I had bought was infested with flies when I bought it.

Not asking for advice on how to get rid of flies because (as I've said) I have taken lots of advice found online already but I would recommend checking any compost bought before using it.  :thumb:

I am not a gardener.  :thumb:

Without rain, there would be no rainbows.

As a houseplant fan , my place is full of them, it is a problem.
The fungus is harmless but unsightly, especially  when it grows on the outside of clay pots.
The flies too are harmless , just annoying.
House plant specific compost is better for the flies than general purpose.
