Alien : Romulus (no spoilers)
« on: August 19, 2024, 18:20:12 »
We've been to the pics today to see Alien : Romulus for free courtesy of Sky TV. No spoilers, but if you like any of the previous family of 'Alien' movies you'll love it, if you didn't like any of the previous movies then this will not change your opinion. Very atmospheric and claustrophobic, but at the same time quite expansive. Excellent and well worth catching on the big screen for full effect.

I've been following the run up to the release and know the plot. It's gone big at the box office this weekend in the US apparently. I'm waiting for original language release here in France.

So how's it going so far then?

Looking forward to this myself but I'll wait until I can't watch it at home.

Going to the cinema is a complete rip off ..

I buy a 1 day travel insurance from compare the market for a few pounds  (I've sometimes used them for bike  insurance etc) and get the Meerkat rewards for a year. Meerkat meal discounts and 2 for 1 cinema tickets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays

Indeed, a lot depends on where you are (London is very expensive for most things for example), how much you earn and how much you use stuff. We have effectively unlimited broadband as we've never got close to the limit, free home calls in the UK and all the TV one could watch. A veritable bargain for me.

BOT
SPOILER ALERT!
I paid my money today and saw the original sound version in Dolby Atmos. As a big Alien fan I really enjoyed it and it took someone like Fede Alvarez to make an extremely exciting 'new' movie. The film is loaded with info from Alien and the prequels, many repeated lines from the previous films and stolen from later ones too. A good young cast, half with english accents like Rey in Star Wars. I thought the opening scene was brilliant, with the company so aware of the 'Big Chap' in Alien so why wouldn't they go looking for him? The biggest surprise was the android Rook, I didn't see that coming. Flying facehuggers and brilliant Xenomorphs in their best graphic violence. It reminded me of Alien Isolation and the old 'shoot 'em up' DOS games of 2000ish.

It has probably been done to death now as there's only so many ways you can fight, shoot, and eventually kill those critters and Alvarez threw just about everything at this except eggs and a queen. (I did expect a 'king' for some reason.....why not?). I have only one criticism, that ending. Did they really have to do an Alien Ressurection repeat?

Well worth 8€30 for a fist watch "very atmospheric and claustrophobic" as 2112 said in the OP and only really available at a cinema near you..........  :icon_wink:

So how's it going so far then?

Easter Eggs Yes, spoiler alert again.

Did you see the Narcissus docked on the Romulus Remus SS and later moving out of scene as the Lab crashed into the planetary rings?

Not sure that's the case but can't rule it out. Ridley Scott is suposed to complete the 'prequels' with Alien Awakening.

Spoiler alert.

2112 There's a curious scene in the film (more easily found in the film trailer) where Rain puts her hand up infront of her face to shadow light from a window. Her hand is open with fingers apart but the shadow on her face looks like a chestburster........
