Going rate for fitting??
« on: August 09, 2022, 22:02:55 »
As been "out of the loop" for quite some years, I was a little shocked at how much the bike mechanic charged to fit my tyres to loose wheels... He did fit some alloy angled valve jobbies too though and balance.. £50 the pair and gave me my old tyres to dispose of...
As comparison my trusted car tyre chap fit, new valves, balance and dispose of old tyres for £50 for a set of 4..

£50 to fit tyres to loose wheels is a bit steep in my opinion.

In our shop, in London, on around 95% of bikes we charge £60 to remove both wheels and fit your tyres, if they are both loose £30, this includes balancing.

Every garage is different, depending on what overheads they have and some garages don't like doing it so make up a price ....

I pay £10 to fit to a loose wheel.

£15 per wheel, at mine to remove wheels, fit tyres & dispose of old one. That's if I supply them, he doesn't charge if he supplies the tyres but the price is usually more than if I source them?  I'm presuming he gets his from a regular supplier & doesn't do any searches for 'best deals'?

I wouldn't fit tyres to loose wheels. I say "use a torque wrench"

Here its £20 per wheel to fit to the bike and £10 to a loose wheel. I always remove the wheels myself as I like to grease bearings, links etc while I'm there.
Last tyre I got fitted a few weeks ago was free, I left it over in the morning, called back late afternoon and it wasn't done so there was no charge! Hope he forgets the next time too.

Seems I got well and truly spanked....
Well Mansfield isn't a million miles and if I coordinate it with seeing a mate, that could work..
I shall ask around locally and see what someone else will charge..

On the subject of tyres,a shot in the dark here.I don’t suppose anyone has a new or virtually new front Bridgestone BT023 tyre to hand do they.I am going on holiday on the Wee in a few weeks and the front tyre has done 7,600 miles and has 3mm of usable tread left  down to the wear bars.I am wondering how many miles are left in the tyre.I would love to know how much usable tread there is on a new tyre.
     Thanks in anticipation.
Note:I have a new tyre ready to go on, but like to get my money’s worth.😂

Ian , my BT023 front has done 14,000 miles now so you should get a lot more out of yours yet, 3mm seems plenty.

Thanks for the info PB,looks as if I should be OK.Estimated mileage for the holiday is 2,500 mls. So it looks as if the tyre should be OK,I will leave it to the last fortnight before I go to make a decision, as I use the bike a fair bit anyway.
