From Tourance to Avons
« on: March 09, 2022, 20:53:14 »
Okay, a thorny old subject - about how the green the grass is on my side of the tyres but here goes…

My Tourance boots need replacing. I am really happy with them, especially so in the wet, but I do find them a tad vague on bends. So I was thinking of maybe changing to a more recent compound. I was thinking the Avon Trailriders as I’ve always likes Avon’s, and I like the look of their tread, but I’m more interested in practicalities.

90% of what I’ll be doing is pure road, but…. later this year when I go away for a couple of months I expect to do shitty roads, tracks and gravel - but no mud or sand - so I don’t need a proper off-road tyre.

So, who’s gone from Torrance’s to Avon’s, and what was your verdict? I did seriously think about the Anakee’s but to be honest, I really don't think I need an 80/20, and besides, I really wouldn’t want to sacrifice any wet weather potential as the Vee’s all year bike - unless of course, the Anakees are the dogs danglies in the wet… Has anyone gone from Tourances to Anakees..? If so, we’re you happy or something you regretted…?

Trying to find the best tyre for ‘you’ is like looking for the holy grail I suppose, but all I can do is ask. When I had road bikes it was an easy question to answer. With an adventure bike it’s a different scenario altogether which is making my head hurt.

I’m so fed up of thinking about it I thought “Sod it. Chuck a pair of Road 5’s on there and forget about it” - but I’m tending to think I could be missing out on gravelly adventures if I do that…!

Not able to give an opinion on tourance vs Avon but having had Trailriders on a 650 Vstrom I can say that I was very impressed with them.

Cheers lads. I think I’ll give the Avon’s a punt.
