San Vicente de la Barquerra

We are in Spain right now. Us on our K1600 and friends on their GSA...sorry, not Suzukis,!!

However, if you are thinking of a trip to the Picos then I can hugely recommend staying here and 'day tripping' to the mountains.

It's a seaside town with a fishing heritage and fabulous bars and restaurants.  Very picturesque. Potes is 1 hour away.

The Posada we are staying in is a good 15 min uphill......and I mean uphill....walk back from the town but it has stunning views over the Bay of Biscay one side and the town/harbour the other. Very quiet, lovely staff, very clean, magnificent breakfast  for €5.50 and off road parking. And all for about £35 a night for a double. Taxis are a fiver!

I will probably post pics when I get back but for now I can only say I thoroughly recommend.......Posada Punta Linera. One of the best places I have ever stayed at.

Off to Pamplona tomorrow ????

I know....

This is our first stop every year for the last three years after disembarking from the ferry at Santander, free parking, good restaurants and leaves ample time to travel another 200 miles to the first overnight stop wherever that may be, we actually managed 250 this year and reached Segovia about 17;30.

Good pictures, thanks for posting.  Any links to the Posada for future reference.

Looks nice, but I would always recommend using booking.com etc to just book a day ahead so you don’t have to keep covering the same ground each day as you head out. Northern Spain is full of wonderful places to stay......apart from Riano which, in my opinion, has no character due to being a new developement.

I agree with booking.com. I always use them so I can check the reviews and cancel close to arrival if needs be. Got this Posada off the site

We do use Booking.com, a lot, but its always nice when someone can recommend a place they've been especially on a bike.

I can see what your saying about Riano being new but we've stayed there in the past and had the craic with locals and other visiting bikers and I've always felt it was worth giving the place a chance.

Not sure about hotels but Potes is a stunning little town. Touristy but also very picturesque and the cable car at Fuente De is a 'must do' if around there.

Came back from that area about 10 days ago. Only passed through San Vicente ... stayed at Novales....but can only endorse what others have said about the area. Potes and Fuente Dé well worth a visit .... also Altamira and Santillana del Mar. The Picos are superb, but for another type of mountain scenery (and fun roads) I'd also suggest the run from Torrelavega to Reinosa and back up to Cabezon de la Sal.
