Recommend tyres for a 2014 DL1000
« on: September 20, 2017, 12:42:17 »
Covered before I guess but I'm looking to hear what folk have used and would recommend for the Veek
Currently have Bridgestone's a40 on which I hate so looking something with a better ride quality that the stones. What you folk using and how many miles are you getting from whatever. Cheers

Anakee 3s, which are wearing extremely well (6k maybe so far?) and not squaring off horribly like the original tyres did (no idea what they were - Bridgestones I guess). I ride a lot of tiny country lanes and they seem to cope better than the OEMs in the sludge, slurry and gravel. Front one does (did?) generate a weird noise in a straight line at 40mph+, but I can't think I've noticed it recently. I'd definitely buy again [for the sort of riding I do].

Michelin PR4 would be my choice but there are others that are as good now.

I'm a bit worried about what mileage I'd get from the pr4's, specially the rear. A pr3 only lasted 4k on the rear of my fz1. Yes a faster bike than the strom but lighter and  a wider rear tyre.

Spent an hour this afternoon in the dealers feeling tyre side walls like some sort of weirdo!
The pr4's were the softest,  then Mez 01's, hardest being Mic annke 3's or Mez endurance.
So think I'll try the pr4's to see if I can get the ride quality I'm looking for.

The older anakee2 had a more flexible sidewall than the anakee 3. The front anakee3 was like concrete just like the a40 Bridgestone's I have on now. I thought the pr4's where expensive till he told me the price of the metz 01's! 288 quid!

I've got a pair of Metzler Tourance Next waiting to go on my V-Strom. Haven't used them before but I'm sure they'll work fine wet or dry and return lousy mileage much like every other type I've used  :)

Metz 01 are great tyres though, just never liked the looks of the PR4's, too many sipes but I suppose that makes them great in the wet.

Got some pilot road 4's today. Trail front standard rear. See how we go.
Anyone know how to claim the 30quid back?  Tried the web site but can't see the offers section.

I got 15k miles on an Anakee 3 rear (Glee) of all weather riding. Currently on Anakee 2's. I love the Anakees

I'm running pr4s on mine and can't see me changing to nothing else as for mileage after only getting around 1000 miles on my gsxr then 4K is fine with me as they transform the ride and confidence of the ride over the Bridgestone rubbish they fit as standard ????

Just about to take these off ours as worn, seem very noisy to me as quite chunky.  Going to Avon Storm 3DXM next and see...............

Use these on my GSA and get excellent mileage out of them, riding all year

My first real day out on the V-Strom with the new Metzlers today and after around 450 miles from Aberdeenshire to the West coast and back in varying road conditions I have no complaints. Grip well in the dry and while it didn't pour down, a lot of the riding I did was on wet roads and had no issues. No chicken strips on the rear which is always a sign of confidence in tyres. Will see how they last......

First 150 mile on the new Michelin pr4's yesterday. Faster turn in, rear seems to sit higher, and its not just the new tyre. Still feel a little harsh on the front but not as bad as the Bridgestone's,  I'll play about with the pressures a bit, just running 36 42 the first time out. Greased up the rear link while the wheel was out. I'm getting that 1-2mm rear vertical play in the link now,  18k miles. No mot here till 4 years so ride on.

Hi all
I run a 2014 DL1000
I commute 30 miles each way on mixture of city, dual, motorway one way and country lanes , single carriageway and city on return .I do 12000 miles a year , all weathers. 5 days a week ,
On original tyres I managed 13k and I replaced them with pr4's
I have just worn them out at 12.5k
I will replace them with pr4's again as I was really pleased with the wet grip they offered . Much better than the grip of the originals .
Be interested to hear any opinions
Cheers blokes

Replaced my originals with Pirelli Scorpion trail 2s, very happy with 'em so far.
