Rain cover
« on: March 19, 2017, 05:56:23 »
Hi chaps!

Does anyone use anything like the Oxford rain seal over coat? I recently drove to work in the rain in my "waterproof"  textile coat and pants. I was so wet my testicles were floating.

I saw a gentleman with an Oxford rain seal coat on and it looked like a cracking idea!
doesn't have to be this specific one, anybody use something like it an have any opinions on it?

Thanks!  :thumb:

Wife and me wear these............
http://www.ghostbikes.com/3690-weise-economy-1-piece-waterproof-over-suit.html

We both have "waterproof" textiles but we wear these & stay dry!
If you're thinking of buying on line see if you can find somewhere to try them on as we found they all varied in fit! Fun to put on & take off, hopping about on one foot unless you can find something to rest against.
Not sure if we'd have been better getting a two piece?

Top-Tip.
To ease the waterproofs dance.. slip a plastic bag over your boot before attempting the dance, you'll find you slip effortlessly into leggings.
Simples..  :lala:

The Oxford ones do get a good review, but I've not tried them personally

I bought a pair of these https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/228468 Oxford trousers and for the first time ever my testicles were nice and dry following a very wet commute to work today. As were my feet now I have a pair of waterproof boots that are actually waterproof, unlike my other 4 pairs of waterproof boots. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RICHA-ADVENTURE-TOURING-WATERPROOF-BOOTS-MOTORCYCLE-BIKE-ENDURO-WP-2-BUCKLE-/131868570786

And my textile jacket is covered by a waterproof cyclists hi vis jacket.

I have a Richa Rain Jacket, does the same job as your cyclists hi-vis - I've given up on jackets that leak despite claiming to be waterproof so I'm going down the layered route - gets a bit warm in the spring though!

Something like the high vis layer is what I'm going for! something that will first of all keep me dry, and secondly help me be seen! :D

Yeah, hi-vis vest over the top is what I do on occasion - just not one of those "Polite Notice" ones :)

I'd give up on the being seen bit, we all know that ain't going to happen. As for the POLITE hi vis and the white helmet they want shooting, specially when I'm filtering and not entirely obeying the rules of the road.

Baron Von Grumble is also a fan of those "Polite Notice" vests...

BvG said he actually felt bad for the bloke afterwards as it was just a video rant but it kind of went viral on bike forums. :smirk:

I used gelert packaway jacket and trousers 3 hours in the rain and was almost dry, rst tundra boots leaked like a sieve, sent them back waiting for my £££ back.

I've used these.. https://www.safetysupplies.co.uk/trolleyed/products/flexothane-hivis-unlined-jacket.htm
That Flexothane stuff is completely 100% waterproof.
Fortunately I got them 'work issue' from my previous employer, and also the matching bib & brace leggings. Used them daily for about 3 years, excellent. There were two versions, one with elasticated cuffs which were great, the others use pop studs, which were also good as long as you were careful tucking them neatly out of the wind (hand guards help avoid possible wind issues too).
The other bonus is during cold periods their wind proofing ensures when worn over a bike jacket, everything keeps nice and warm. I can't recall ever riding in more than T-shirt, jacket and DayGlo Derrick hi-viz.
Summertime I'd zip it down a bit to control the temperature.
It's also surprising how many drivers pull over when you arrive behind them, lights on and DayGlo blinging.
I can handle the sneering looks of some 'proper men bikers' for the benefits of increased visibility, and I'll happily take that sort of advantage against the 'sorry mate' squad.
You'll certainly not be missed. :thumb:
