Textile jacket and base/mid layer top
« on: February 26, 2017, 15:55:26 »
As the weather is soon to change to something known as summer, I need to get away from sweating in a leather jacket.A short commute to work and the t shirt I wear is pretty well wet. So I am looking at a textile jacket, do I need one that fits snug or one the next size up plus base and mid layers. Do the quilted liner work or just bin it, anyone use base/mid layers. Maybe a heated vest as a option

I have a halverrson prime fabric jacket. The liner keeps you warm in the winter and cold in the summer. Strangely it works. With my previous hien gericke jacket I never used to use the liner. I personally prefer a little room in my jackets but I do 400-500 mile days so like to feel really comfortable. I still layer though.

In general, I'd say don't get one that fits snug...most of them have adjusters on arms, waist etc to tighten up so they won't flap, get one that's comfortable, and also with plenty of vents: some are designed more for winter travel, without much venting. In summer with liner out, and vents wide open, nice and cool, you'll love it!

Get a mesh one for summer, a lot better and cool on hot days, love mine and very light.

 :shock: What ? I don't know where you live / ride but here in UK summer is a long way off  :GRR: and comes in five or six bits lasting two or three days at a time between mid June and mid August.
TOO HOT!!  :icon_exclaim: I have never felt too hot on bike and I always wear a vest.  :old: (M&S don't you know)
Well ...  I'll go to the foot of our stairs.

I don't think liners work well at all, even the outlast stuff. Had a prime jacket before but wasn't impressed, currently use wolf trousers with outlast and they're still pretty cold.

I use a klim traverse jacket which is unlined and just buy a down jacket for underneath.Much better purpose built insulation.

If you want something for HOT summer, a vented mesh jacket it is. I use the Klim Traverse year round as it's a truly waterproof jacket, with massive vents on either armpit that sent stopped by a waterproof layer so does cool.

@Brockett:
I live and (mostly) ride in Italy and here summer can very hot.
In the last 10 years we experienced long and dry hot summers.

I use textile all year round. In the summer I have the vents open with no liner but never really get too hot except if I'm stood still in traffic.

In the winter I have the liner in but rely on layers as the thermal liners on their own aren't enough.

EDZ do some very good thin mid and Base layers.

  I'm using klim traverse, it great kit, keeping me dry, warm with base layers, and we'll ventilated in summer.
  I have had it for a couple of years, having done a lot of green laning, enduro practice days, and long tours round Scotland,  it is still perfect.
