Laminated clothing
« on: September 16, 2016, 21:27:49 »
Hi any body got any thoughts on laminated textiles , as I am looking to buy a new set of waterproofs . But I am not keen on Rukka as they don't vent very well in the warmer months .

Read this and pick a different brand to Rev It

I bought laminated gortex as I commute daily all year round and wanted something that would be 100% waterproof and dry quickly. When it works (very light rain from my experience) the water sits on top of the fabric and dries quickly so no putting soggy clothing back on.

It is expensive and I'm not convinced it is worth the extra money over a standard gortex suit with a rain oversuit for heavy rain, but if you buy a product that is better quality than the one I bought then you may be happy with it.

Thanks for your reply and link to your posting on your revit problem , I hope this gets sorted out soon for you as that's a lot of money for a jacket that leaks . I must point out that you are the third person I know that has had that problem with that specific make of gortex  revit coat , 1of the chaps has now had the jacket sent away on 2 occasions and it is still leaking so I must admit that has put me of that particular make & design . I am looking at Klim ???  :smirk:

I think I've heard good reports of Klim. Not good I'm number 3 on Rev It issues. I for one will never be buying Rev It again - boo!

Let us know what you get and how you get with it. Suspect I'll end up replacing mine sooner than I'd hoped  :bawl:

I've got some Halvassons kit.
Technically it's Lindstrands but that's just a sub brand. Heavy duty outer, with large vents and a removable waterproof liner.
Been in some horrendous rain for a couple of hours and perfectly dry at the end.
Liked it so much we got the mrs a pair of  the trousers from Halvassons earlier this year.

Great thing about the removable liner is, if it ever does leak you can take it out, have a look at it and patch any holes, put it back in and you'll not see it from the outside.

Quick question mr diver about your halvassons gear , was it expensive and is it laminated or gortex , you mention about a liner is this a waterproof liner inside the coat , so does that mean that the coat becomes heavy from the rain ??? Do halvassons come with full armor and what sort is it please ?

I'm a cheapskate and the sworn enemy of fashionable brands.
My solution is a cheap (Oxford) jacket with all the vents and zips, and regular use of Nikwax.
Kept me bone dry through biblical torrents of rain in Germany last month and comfortable in the heat.
Resurgence biking chinos and Burghaus breathable over trousers completed the ensemble.

I have SUPERVENT II PRO.  Incredible.
Expensive but worth it all, sizes tailored per person surcharge and finally 10 years warranty.

Stadler, Rukka and Klim are the big (read expensive) names in laminate goretex clothing. I've not seen Stadler in the UK anywhere, and Klim appears to have a small network of dealers here. Rukka is more widely available.

Given the state of the pound at the moment the savings from buying abroad are not as good as before Brexit.

My only experience of laminated goretex is the second hand Rukka Armax Jacket I bought a couple of months ago. Lighter and cooler than the old Dainese jacket I was using before. Perfectly waterproof. It certainly holds less water than my old non-laminate goretex jacket.

I wouldn't buy a new one of any of them as I don't think the extra for laminated goretex is worthwhile, but that's just my opinion. It certainly is nice, and if you have the cash, why not. For me, second hand they make perfect sense.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

In Italy too do not exist. I am in black forest minimum twice per year so was easy test the size and buy it. Clothes was good size 27 but the jacket made the arms on my size. 4 week to expect and was ready.
