Gloves ?
« on: July 05, 2016, 10:43:13 »
I'm looking at a pair of gloves that is 100% waterproof and can be worn all year round.
Whatoptions are best : goretex textile leather ... currently own summer gloves from rst very nice but not waterproof and frank thomas winter gloves that are supposed to be waterproof but are not :)
I'm really interested to see what people have been using ...

Cheers

I've had a pair of these for a few years now. cold  (Filter made me spell it this way)enough for summer and wore them through the last winter (with heated grips). They have a breathable membrane in between the lining of the glove and the leather. They have had a good soaking more than once and they've held up well.

After my favourite Belstaff gloves gave up after 15 years of faithful service - I bought a set of these earlier in the year

So far a very good do it all glove and have proven waterproof

Can't comment what they are like in extreme cold yet though but feel like they should be OK?

That is something that I'm looking for ;) and the price is decent as well
Can you please tell me if they hold up well in winter ? Do you ride all year round with them ?

I have used them through a few winters. they are thicker than a standard summer glove but not as thick as a winter only glove. I would say a good all rounder apart from the extreme cold. . I have heated grips and they are fine with them. If I recall you start feeling the nip after about 30min below 5 degrees. They are waterproof though

Rukka Apollo are excellent but pricey if you want three season and waterproof. Always try on in store with Rukka as their sizing comes up very small.
can't beat the old school Hein Gericke Pathan 'lobster' gloves for Winter use.

Interesting thread ....
Only way to keep the rain out for me has been Handlebar Mitts. Ugly and in need of reinforcement so as to keep them from pressing on clutch and brake levers. Also rain can run down my arm and into the mit. On the other hand (no pun intended) they do work well with heated grips to keep the old fingers toasty.

I like armoured gloves, since an accident with plain leather gloves left me with a torn tendon.

I have a pair of Wolf textile gloves with armour but the outer material is worn out and they are not waterproof.
My Dainese textile gloves with Gortex leak after prolonged rain. My "Triumph" leather gloves  with Tritex leak PDQ  and both are too hot May to September.
So I am keen to gain the experience of others here.
I was told that Goretex worn with heated grips work in reverse and suck the rain in.
Anybody confirm or counter this?

I have the Held dual season gloves think they are now called 'Air n Dry' and have found them great with the dual chamber wet/cold and dry really useful in our changeable UK weather. So far have kept my hands dry but not tried in extreme wet and warm to about 5 degrees possibly lower when used with hand guard and heated grips.

I've found the Alpinestars gloves work best for me, but even gortex gloves have the leather soaked through as they get worn, so whilst your hands maybe dry they are surrounded by cold, water soaked, stinky leather.

The best solution I have found is handlebar mitts that keep the rain and wind chill off and mean you can run heated grips on low.

I may try heated gloves at some point, but I imagine they will still suffer from the leather eventually getting soaked, something the mitts prevent.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

My best winter gloves were a pair of electric ones with a rechargeable battery in each one, only good for about 1.5 hours but well worth the £140.
I also had nice furry muffs on my Fazer and they were superb, anyone know of a pair that fit the Glee please for the inevitable cooler weather.
