Blue tooth comms advice please.
« on: June 13, 2016, 17:00:01 »
I bought a new Nolan N104 Absolute recently and planned to fit a blue tooth comms headset to listen to satnav etc.
I also bought a cheap headset from Lidl( recommended by friend who has same) but because of the way Nolan have moulded the helmet and moved the sun shield controls it wouldn't fit. Even thought of sticking it on the outside but curve of helmet stopped this.
Have now spoken to several friends with different main stream brands and would appear none of the popular makes are plausible.
It appears Nolan have designed the helmet to only accept their NCom B5 built in system which in UK is £200 from discounters!
However same system (with Union Flag on box on image) is available from Germany for £140 plus £8 delivery and would ask anyone with knowledge of these things would this be compatible with UK phones/satnavs/other BT devices and radio stations?
I suspect it probably is but would rather be aware of any potential pitfalls before ordering?
Alternatively has anyone with a N104 Absolute managed to fit an alternative Bluetooth headset?
Thanks.

Great Question ....

I've got a Nolan N104 Evo and am after the B5 for my Birthday. I've also seen the £140 option and wondered if it is really a suitable "drop in".

So there's two people waiting for an answer on this one.

I have one of the aldi headset and have stuck it on with some heavy duty Velcro!

My dad had problems fitting it on his because of a sun visor slider so just stuck it on backwards on the other side of the helmet..

So don't buy a Nolan... Ha. Poor design if they made it so it only takes their headset. But good luck with it.

(I'm a Shoei/multitech and Sena bloke in case anyone wondered ).

I have these fitted inside my Caberg and AGV helmets. They are a simple design, but also available with stereo ear pieces if that's what you require. They link perfectly with my phone and my Garmin Zumo. They won't allow communication with another bike, but for easy mounting and listening to your linked devices they are a cheap cost effective solution. The other bonus is the entire unit is contained within the helmet so no wind noise created like externally mounted units.

Nice link will bag me one of those for solo rides with my other lids.

I have just purchased the generic 'Riders' BT 1200m system for my forthcoming Tour, I have to say I am pleasantly surprised the sound quality is great. Both the 'adventure' helmets took the wiring quite easily with removal of the padding etc a Spada and a Airoh.

Like this although got mine from another seller cheaper: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272035317255?_trksid=p2060353.m2763.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

We bought  one of the cheap Bt800 v2 sets off ebay.
much better than the Scarla Q2 sets we had.
Better radio, clearer intercom, louder speakers, longer lasting battery, nothing has failed or broken and £40 the pair compared to the £170 for the Q2 teamset.

Both speakers in my Scarla have died, the mic plays up and one speaker doesn't work in SWMBO's, both base units have been replaced in the first month under warranty. Base units are £40 each... where I can buy a set of the BT800's for the same money.

I wouldn't buy anything by Scarla/Cardo again.

the V2 has the FM radio the V1 doesn't.

Fitted it on the outside left hand opp', no probs. (sticky pad & velcro)
Fairly good radio too. Linked my Zumo through phone to this.

I've a Nolan 104 which is a great fit for my melon head!
I had my arm twisted into buying a scala g9 blue tooth gizmo which mounts via its own sticky pad to the lower left lip quite nicely.
The device however is a over priced piece of s**t. It delivers sporadic functionality and is overly complicated . I have at least 5 chums who have one who would agree. I'm going to try an aldi special next time .

What he says  ^ ^ ^ - Scala G9x are seriously flawed. A great idea in theory but they just don't work.  :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead: :angry-banghead:

My girlfriend has just bought a sena smh5. I'll be fitting it tonight. If it's anything like my 20S it should be good.

They aren't quite as good, but still a cracking headset.

Bought the Nolan N-Com B5 from the German seller. Still expensive but takes minutes to fit and works fine with my phone, Zumo and links to the Lidl/Silvercrest unit I fitted to my wife's helmet when she's on the back (I can switch this on/off from my helmet).
Bit fiddly to use and instructions only in German but downloaded English from Internet.
Also has bike to bike and FM radio. Radio clear for main uk channels, not tried bike to bike yet.

I've had the Sena 10U in my Shoei Neotec for a year or so now.  All hidden away, nice short mic.
Remote on handlebar for music, FM, phone.  Speakers are clear and loud at NSL.
Works with Sat Nav, ideal
