"short epoch" love it. Phone, comfy chair, crossword/sudoku book, coffee, biscuits....right, let's give 'em a tinkle.

Glad they told you wher your kit was. Evri wouldn't give me any info, said their contract was with the sender. By bye, led indicator kit for Vstrom.

6th July we lost Internet and telephone. It turned out to be cable theft, Orange took until 30th August to replace the cabling, about 2 kms of it. I was happy to be connected again that evening but just after midnight we lost connection. Next morning I drove to Redon via the route of our telephone cables (underground) only to find 5 manholes opened up and cables once again swiped! This time 1.2 kms. Back on today but for how long? Should I run a book?    :eusa-doh:    Theiving b*stards.   :dl_smiley_banghead:  :icon_batterup:
So how's it going so far then?

Copper was always a favourite for our travelling friends to remove from BT ducts.
If it went 'missing' overnight you could drive to their nearby sites & see plumes of black smoke rising where they were 'burning off' the insulation.
Unfortunately scrap yards were more than willing to accept the copper, so there was always a market for it.
I don't think Optic Fibre has the same scrap value. I know it can be recycled but not as a valuable scrap product.
The thing is, Optic Fibre still goes 'missing', presumably because the 'removals people' are in too much of a hurry to check what's in it.

Years ago when my ex mother in law had problems with her phone, the BT phone man told me that they have started using aluminium cable because it's cheaper but it breaks down and causes a lot of problems? That was quite a long time ago before everybody had computers at home.

Yes that's correct Doc. BT were always trying to save the pennies, especially on wages!!
Aluminium wire was bloody awful stuff, you only had to breath on it & it would snap. It was only used in the underground cables, not overhead or internal (houses, offices etc) but it had to be terminated in those green 'cabinets' that you see on the pavements.
If an engineer opened one to do a repair or connect through for a new line you could guarantee that he would break 4 or 5 others.
Some were still in the ground when I retired (did I tell you I'm retired?) 10 years ago.

Yes Martin, it's true but I don't like to harp on about. As Rusty says I might have mentioned it just the once.

Lately I've been hearing people complaining about the heat. It makes me :angry-tappingfoot: soon it'll be  :rain: and then too cold with salted roads so no more  :auto-dirtbike: while the bikes are on SORN untill next March. As for heat I find a cold shower and walking around naked cools me down although I'n no banned from Morrisons again.
This doesn't last forever, so do it while you can. Nothing travels faster than the speed of time.

Now there's an image that'll take some shifting.
Yes they've all moaned about the heat, we saw 77 of your fahrenheits Upt'North.
It's probably the same lot who lie on a Spanish beach for two weeks each year turning a nice bright red colour. Muppets.
It can stay as warm and muggy as it likes for me......but.......40 of your fahrenheits here tonight. Oh summer where have you gone you fickle lady.
Upt and not too hot, maybe barely warm.

In southern Spain at the moment & I thought it was hot back in sunny Derby a few weeks ago until we got here. It's only pushing 30° on the thermometer but it feels a lot bloody hotter. So we're spending our time in the shade of air conditioned bars.
Although before they opened today we were having a stroll around a marina when a chap pulls up on a Ducati 916 (red), he had got leather trousers on, a textile jacket with no air vents & boots. A bit unusual for most bike riders in these parts, they do seem to like shorts, tea shirts & flip flops!
Deb walked over & said,
"nice bike, I remember Carl Foggarty winning the world championship on one of them".
I'm thinking, he's Spanish & won't understand a word you said.
When he took his helmet off he was sweating more than Gary Glitter at the school gates!!
But he wasn't Spanish at all, we still couldn't understand a word he said though, but figured out he was from Yorkshire by his accent!
He's been living in Spain for 25 years! He said "I'm used to the heat now". What I think he meant to say was "I'm used to sweating profusely now"!

Martyn, we're in Sotogrande. As far South of Malaga as you are North? Or is it East?
