Anyone use Sat Nav?

I use a TomTom Rider due to my diabolical sense of direction, I used to have the Rider1 which had serious design flaws with it's mounting hardware but the nice people at TomTom gave me a free upgrade to a Rider2 some time ago  :)

I got the Zumo 550 with my bike as it was only £99 and they fitted it for me as well.

I was going to get the TomTom Rider as I use TomTom from my PDA when in the van. As I say though, for £99 I was not going to turn the Zumo down. Still can't make my mind up about it though. I miss having my contacts in there automatically, and I'm going to have to get around to loading them all in by hand.

Yup, TomTom Rider 2 here, too.

I like the Garmin stuff, particularly the breadcrumb trails and the PC software, but I couldn't get on with the jerky screen updates and slow route re-calculation.

Only bummer with the TomTom is that there's no audio port on the bike cradle, despite having the pins in the connector for it, so Autocom users (like moi) have to cough up for the Autocom Bluetooth adaptor and connect that way.   :crazy:

Can't argue with £99 though, Tanzy.  Bargainous.

I use a Garmin V which I have had for years (did it really cost £440 !!!!) Its waterproof and is fitted to the bars using a RAM mount ball and cradle and is powered direct from the Vstrom Battery. Very Basic but on the plus side it does tell you your height above sea level and record the day for download onto your PC later - bet they are really cheap secondhand now.... In the car I have a TOMTOM GO 520 - had a cheap NAVMAN ICN510 but my son managed to drown it in Southern Comfort (don't ask!) and the insurance man thought that it was comparable to the GO 520 !

Zumo 550 here, bought when first come out. Been using Sat Nav for years and I can't say whether it is better or worse than the others, you just need to weigh up what features you need and go for the model that suits.

I like the ruggedness (spelling.. :D ) of it.....but I know of two usints that have been damaged by drops. Both replaced by Garmin so their customer service is excellent too.

Pricless when travelling abroad....but as Dan Walsh said "it's better to be lost in France than found in Wigan"... lol  lol

The thing that I do miss with the Zumo 550 is the syncing with contacts in Outlook. Just so used to it with my TomTom on the PDA.

Don't think much of the MapSource for planning routes though, may just be me not using it correctly of course. Went and lost the top off the security screwdriver thing yesturday as well :(

I have a Zumo 550 which is great and gets me where I want to be without a flaw and I find 'her' pronunciations of the roads when abroad quite amusing. The thing I can’t get my head round is how I got to the destination. If anybody asks me which way I came I often haven’t a clue. Also it does make some journeys a bit of a forced march in that it is nice sometimes to stop to have to look at the map. But I’m sure the Zumo has avoided accidents - the world is a safer place if I’m not looking at the map on my tankbag whilst I’m driving. The only problem with the Zumo is that stupid security screw, I took a junior hacksaw to mine to give it a slot I can use a normal small screwdriver on

Hello Playmates! About three weeks ago I bought myself a Zumo 400 and was planning to fit and wire it the last weekend in June. However, a lovely helpful collapsing loft ladder means I have a broken back and won't be riding for a while. It stays in the box until then!

Zumo 550 here my first ever Sat Nav and I really like it,it takes away  any of the worry about if your going in the right direction and makes biking more enjoyable,I apoligise if any one else has mentioned this but its also helpful in warning of tight bends coming up by looking at the map but obviously not to be relied on.

To be honest I don't think the Zumo 550 would have helped - Get well soon it sounds very serious

The poverty model, :(  Zummo 400 for me, excellent little unit :D

Now off to check my loft ladder :shock: hope it is not as serious as it sounds piglumps
