MRA Vario or Madstad with slipscreen
« on: December 15, 2011, 20:28:53 »
Hi

Got my vstrom 650 GT last week and I am looking to sort the buffeting.Shes in lovley condition in bright orange with bars and sump guard , but the previous owner cleaned the scrren with what looks like a scouring pad.

Hence I need a new screen, from looking over this site I can't make up my mind which option would work better, budget about 110 fits both options.

Have so far tried nuts under the original screen, impoved things slightly, have changed my helmet from badly fitting caberg to AGV S4SV, massive improvement, now I'm just getting buffeting at the back of my head and a lot of wind noise, rather than a pile driver!

Does the wider slipscreen give more benefit than the spoiler on the mra, was thinking 1 inch wider 1 incher higher. I'm 5 9 using middle setting at moment which was better for buffeting than top

It's pronounced 'twenty-one-twelve'

I was fortunate enough to do both MADSTAD and tall Vario at the same time - if I had to pick one it'd be the Madstad bracket as I think the angle of the screen is slightly more critical than the screen itself. Juvecu has Madstad and standard screen at certain times of the year but a Givi barn door for the colder months, though I stand to be corrected of course..
No bike at present.......

Sounds like the madstad with the slipsceen then for me (too much for mra with madstad)

What sort of size slipsceen did you go for, I not hugely tall at 5 9 but am thinking a wider screen should help?

what's the quality like as I ride in all weathers so need something that does not scratch too easily, or would I be better of with a new Suzuki one?

Thanks for your help as I really only want to buy 1 screen and it looks very easy to end up with several!

Took his standard screen. I'm 5'9" and I vary it according the weather. A good value screen. Can't remember anyone on here who bought one complaining so reckon I ain't the only happy customer.

Does it touch the mirrors on full lock?

Can u see over the top of the screen easily? I'm a bit worried with night time driving looking through the screen, I want the light smoked but think I may have to go clear for night time driving.

Looks like a bit of a bargain to me

I have a Givi screen and madstad. I know its not a mra but I bet the affects are similar. Anyway, I have it set up with a tilt and the screen top is about 2 inches below my eye line when sitting. I'm 6 foot and have no buffeting at all. Its all about trial and error but I bet youl find a setting for you. I don't have a tinted screen but maybe in the summer I will but till then clear is fine
I'm sane, honestly. . . I got a certificate to prove it!

I have ordered the madstad, not cheap 93 delivered , hope its worth it. Going to play around with it then decide on the size screen I need, am thinking 1 inch wider 1 inch longer in clear, bit better weather protection but not too much of a barn door.

You won't be disappointed with the Madstad. I have one that I use with the standard screen.  It's so good I even sold the Givi barn door and I'm now just using the Madstad with the standard screen. I'm 5'11 and I was thinking of getting a Slipscreen that's an inch wider each side and 2 inches higher. This should give me a better wind hole behind the screen. I was wondering if they could make it a bit rounder so that it's not such a sail when the wind hits it from the front. I probably won't even bother with the Slipscreen, come summer I will have the small tinted Aero screen back on again.

Just a quick update, been using madstad since xmas, much better, just makes riding normal again, still deciding between standard and slightly bigger screen.

Any one considering the madstad go for it, expensive but worth it.
