Tax Rebates = Shopping list
« on: November 21, 2011, 18:11:24 »
After 2 and possibly 3 years of tax rebates (which were unexpected) , my shopping list is as follows;-

TCX Infinity GTX Boots
Spada Enforcer Gloves
Weise Nevada Textile jacket
Weise Dynastar II or Arc On Beyond II Textile trousers
Caberg Justissimo Helmet

Think it best to get some decent (if budget) kit ready for Stromtrekkers 3. :auto-dirtbike:

I know its not "top of the range" stuff, but all has got decent reviews in Mags recently.

If anyone has had problems with any of this kit, or can provide equivilent price and spec alternatives, your thoughts would be grately appreciated.
Time to shop, starting at the bike show on Sunday

Plenty of choice at the bike show, but there is a lot of tat there. If you know what you're after you should certainly pick up a bargain  :thumb:

Weise Nevada Textile jacket
Weise Dynastar II or Arc On Beyond II Textile trousers

A little tale about Weise....

I bought a Weise Climate on ebay last winter, £60 delivered, it was a cracking jacket, a few pounds lost later, and the climate (still in perfect, waterproof splendour) is enjoying its second life with my old man.

So...Time for a new jacket for me...

I liked the Weise, nice quality, well vented, very warm when needed, and absolutely submarine like waterproofness, reason enough for another Weise I thought. The Maverick was the one I plumped on. Not top nor bottom of the range, an has some nice colourways. Sold on it, I ordered one size smaller than before and looked forward to getting it.

Arrival day: mixed feelings,

-Weise have dropped Knox armour (like that in the Climate) for some homemade stuff, which was way under parr against the Knox.
- Fit was great, but the velcro adjusters felt weak, as in not very 'sticky'
- last straw, admiring the nice new cloak infront of a full length mirror, I spotted a loose thread, hmm thought I, unitl on closer inspection, I noticed it was a fantastic display of crap workmanship, and even worse QC. They must have been blind not to notice an inch long stitch failure on the breast panel!

Sent back, and the service form the seller was second to none (speedsport of hull!) refunded in full, inc postage both ways!

I have to say, the jacket was great, and had it not have been for the stitching, I would have kept it, as the rest are just expected in a sub £100 jacket. I think it may have been a friday afternoon garment. I would buy Weise again, butnot mail order, and as there are no dealers up here, it would mean a treck! Iver the Nevada, I wold go for this, it really is a bargain, unfortunately, sleeve length is just on the short size for me:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Weise-Dynasta ... 23167306e2

Maverick replacement difficult as the jacket was a sale item as the shop werent keeping Weise anymore- (£95 posted) in Gun/Black - they are £149 everywhere else! I wouldn't pay the higher amount at all to be honest.

NEC time: Arlen Ness jacket, Black/Gun/Grey fits like a glove, feels good quality (branded cordura instead of 'nylon'), same old poor armour that is expected (and no back protector), but looking to forcefield it up! At £80 it left enough for a tankbag on the george white stand! It will be great to last me until I have sorted a Sat Nav, new boots and saved for a Halvarssons Spartacus!!

Now Arc-on - Hmmm...Me likes! And they will do custom fit for not alot more ££, I do prefer the original grey over the black though!

pfeww..that was a long one (said the actress to the bishop!!)

I had one of these and found it comfy, but very noisy and the chinbar is very close to your chin (close to both of mine!), About £149 usually...

+1 for the Forcefield armour, very impressive and surprisingly flexible, breathable too.

I struggle to get them around my thick neck, and the armours not too good. Leaks water from the front too.

Same here, nothing is long ehnough in the arm, and trousers are simply a pain - no brands do 36 legs!

Sound like a custon made Arc-on suit could be just the ticket - might stretch the old budget though?!?

I bought a Weisse Dynastar II a cuople of years ago after seeing recommendations in Ride, it was warm, but the armour was poor and the outer material pretty thin. I went to work in the pouring rain and it leaked down the front, sent it back for a refund and went back to my old Dianese jacket that leaks a little at the front in heavy rain but decided I can put up with it until it gets much worse, still using ity two years later (it is 14 years old now).

So, of course money does come into it, but do you spend £100-£150 on a jacket with OK protection and weather proofing that will last a couple of years hard use, or do you spend £400-£500 on a gortex jacklet with great protection and weather proofing that will last 10+ years?

Naturally, if you don't have the money to hand you don't have a choice.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

I can only comment on footwear as I was on a mission at the show ! I'm very impressed with the Sidi Adventure boots I picked up last weekend. They're a bit more than the TCX's but I think they're worth it. Depends on how well they fit you though ? Also check out the Hein Gericke stand, the Rallye 3 goretex boots are a very reasonable £149.00, just too narrow for my lardy northern feet or I'd have had a pair.

Have a look at RST stuff, what I wear at the moment and they get hard use. I have the Paragon II textiles, specifically bought for cold and wet weather riding and I'm happy for the price. I think they are British too, if you're feeling patriotic :)

So here's what I ended up with,

Spada Enforcer gloves, just the job!
Caberg Justissimo lid, best fit by far even if a little noisy.
RST Paragon III Jacket, perfect fit, very warm and comfortable.
RST paragon trousers, great fit, but why do these companies put the knee armour on the shin??
Alpinestars Scout WP Boots, well made, solid and very comfortable. not seen anything on these boots but I'm really impressed. I found the TCX and HG uncomfortable.

Bring on the winter :rain:  :lala:

Big thanks to Juvecu for his input, advise, knowledge and dressing skills but most of all his haggling, he probably saved me another £50.  :ty:

That's a nice bit of kit you've scored yourself, all ready for whatever the weather chucks at you  :thumb:
I've actually got a pair of spada gloves I've had for about 6/7 years. They're as good as new (but broken in) and are cracking quality. Just a bit too hot for the summer but nice around May/September.

She was cute AND very friendly (the bloke was just friendly.) Got double the amount of 'free' oil out of her

Let me know how those boots wear in, if they go nice and soft I might consider a pair myself.

Been breaking the boots in around the house, but can only manage 20 mins at a time as they get too warm!
Bring on winter biking.
