Sidi or TCX ???
« on: November 16, 2011, 14:39:21 »
I'm off to the bright lights of Birmingham at the weekend for the bike show and I am determined to return with a new pair of waterproof boots. I currently have a pair of Diadora 'mud' boots which are as comfortable as slippers, but just as waterproof.....
I've narrowed it down to - Sidi Adventures or TCX infinity's (or possibly Hein Gericke's Rallye 3's, outside bet...) and that's about it. I like a high boot with decent shin protection but don't like an over ridgid sole (motocross boots out) and I like a heel (enduro boots out). Any idea's or opinions on these choices folks ??? Budget is not an issue, being a genuine waterproof boot is !!!

My son has Sidi boots, have served him well and remain waterproof. The only issue he has had with them is the zip tags breaking, so he uses paper clips now.

My recommendation would be to try them all on with your usual biking trousers and go for the ones that are most comfortable.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

I had a pair of sidi black rain evo waterproof boots. Very good fit, comfy and waterproof. But like mentiond both zip tags broke off. I had to use those ring key things to fit in so I could wear them. Then the zip closure on one just broke apart totally. Only had them about 9 months and not hard ridden. I now go for clasp or velcro closing only, cos I'm not paying for boots, that everything else looks nearly new, but can't wear cos I can't close
I'm sane, honestly. . . I got a certificate to prove it!

I've had the Sidi Adventures for a year or so now and they are the best purchase that I have ever made. Completely waterproof and with a good pair of socks in the winter they are warm too. The buckles give good support for the ankle and apparently are replacable if they break. they are alot of money but when these start to fail then I will be looking to get another pair or whatever supercedes them. Hope this helps.

So, I ended up with a pair of Sidi Adventures for a very reasonable £245. I tried the TCX's, very nice boots, top quality but too tight accross the tootsies for my large numpty feet. Same story with the Hein Gericke Rallye 3's which are a stunning £149.99 at the show - £70 off ! The Sidi Canyon's were also too tight and the Alpinestars Durban boot was so narrow I couldn't even get a size 13 on and I take an 11 !!! very happy with the Sidi's they just need a bit of breaking in   :thumb:

P.S. thanks for all the suggestions, most appreciated.

Boot's are the second worst thing to buy, helmets are the worst in my humble opinion. After three or four lids the 'burning ear' syndrome sets in and from there on in it feels like torture every lid you try on ! Speaking of which, I tried an AGV off road lid yesterday, couldn't remember the model name but it's thier version of the Arai Tour X. Very comfortable and it felt half the weight of a Tour X - half the price too !

I saw the TCX's for a very reasonable £149.99. Sadly, I couldn't begin to tell you where as it was a bit of a blur of people. I'm fairly sure I saw the same price at two different places ? There were W2 boots around £135 too.

Just been out for a quick spin on the bike, I've had to adjust the gear lever and brake pedal to suit the new boots ! Very comfortable already and they can only get better as they break in, impressed.

The Sidi's are getting better with every journey and have not leaked a drop, very impressive. They are breaking in slowly and look like they will last for years, which is nice. No idea how well they'll perform in the heat yet but summer is on it's way.

I've had Oxtars which were changed to TCX along with a different manufacturer of waterproof membrane. I have a pair of TCX boots now. The reflective badge on the back likes to crack and even come off. Replacing it with silicone seal works. Except for that, they work really well and stay waterproof. I also have a pair of Sidi On-Road boots that have also stayed waterproof and have had no problems but they don't have zippers. They are more of a pain to get on and off though. Those brands are the only ones I've used that have never leaked.

Products from Nikwax have done a good job of restoring waterproofing to items I've used that began leaking. http://www.nikwax.co.uk/en-us/index.php
