I want new boots
« on: September 26, 2011, 10:13:30 »
Right after buying a pair of spada hurricane boots and getting feet soaked on an outing to Scotland my spada boots are being returned to the shop and I will get a full refund. So can anyone recommend a good waterproof boot that will not leak after a cpl of months?

Daytona Road Star GTX Gortex boots, not cheap, but waterproof for years.
Now on a Super Tenere having put 64k miles on a 2011 DL650

The Hein Gericke Daytona Alkon boots are going to be my next pair of boots. I'll probably get them this month, the weather is starting to turn. Here's a link to the product page on their web site.

Pluses for me are:
- Gore-Tex (so waterproof and "breathable")
- all Velcro fastening (quick on and off, adjustable)
- full grain leather
- square at the toes instead of pointy
- wide enough fit for my wide'ish feet
- goes under textile trousers easily
- slightly flexible and grippy sole
- they do not come up so high as to go behind my knee protectors
- they are high enough to protect my shins still
- they will be usuable all year round for me
- can do a bit of walking in without murdering my feet (not recreational walking!)
- and priced fair enough considering that I will use them at least 2 years and many miles

Daytona for me too! My Goretex Bandit XCRs have been paddling (literally!) on many occasions without a drop of leakage, also worth noting that I bought them while on hols in Germany and saved many, many pennies!

My Hein Gericke Ralleye GTX II boots are 2 years old and still waterproof. They get used all year round and have plenty of life left in them

anything with goretex  will keep you dry and cool. I don't use   motorcycle  boots but my  BATES  goretex(police boots) have been used everyday since last october and the only change I have noticed to the boots is the smell ... :shy:

I'd been using several pairs of cheapish boots over the years that either leaked immediately or started after a few months use and finally lashed out and bought a pair of Daytona Roadstar GTX. Really good, comfortable and don't leak! Should have bought some years ago. They're pricey from normal outlets (as much as £299!) but can be got a lot cheaper on the internet if you hunt around for them. I think Hein Geriche do their own branded version quite a lot cheaper as well.

Comfy to walk in round town, completely waterproof and especially good if you have wide feet. Picked mine up 2 years ago at the nec bike show on the infinity stand for 240. I suspect that was because it was the last day and they didn't want to load them back into the van!

And so they should be being GTX boots!

GTX now at hein gericke has a lifetime waterproof guarentee, so probiding you don't ride down the road dragging your boots they should last for 10+ years!

and they are definately my next purchase

I've got the Sidi Adventures and have been using them for the past year with no leaks. They were around 265 quid so not cheap but I've not regretted it yet.

I'm on my second pair, they do a normal and wide fitting in my size (48 or 13 in UK) which was handy. My first pair were a normal fit and I found they squeezed my foot a little, the second pair a wide fitting and are perfect.

The first pair lasted me 10 years and the shop told me they could get them refurbished, so I had them send them off for a quote, but as they needed new soles, new zips, and new rubber shift protectors, the cost was not a lot less than new so I never bothered, but I still have them as spares.

I use Bullson Manx boots (from HG), had them 4 years, still waterproof in torrential rain, not the warmest nor the tallest, but always dry and I've walked miles in them. The lining in the base has come loose this summer in Germany (lots and lots of walking). They are £109 a pair, but there's always deals to be had at HG (ie. an AA card will get you 15% off).

Chosen as my left calf is truly massive* and no other boots  (tried 5 different shops) could be done up at all.

*Massive left calf due to a large clot (DVT) in my left thigh from knee to groin. The blood can't flow properly back from my foot, so my foot and calf are of "Hulk" proportions.

** EDIT: Should've kept quiet, left boot started leaking in July 2012. Now totally unwaterproof...**
