Do you use one? Or simply do it 'tight enough'

I have done it by hand in the past on other bikes, but it is really not worth the risk that you will strip some threads by over tightening it. I use a torque wrench on critical fasteners like this all the time now.

Hand, just tight enough to feel a new washer compress.

I use one if I know the value, if I don't I go by feel, if in doubt go gentle, if oil leaks out nip it up a bit, if not then your work is done.

Just keep your head in the game. I once forgot to set the torque on the tool and stopped before doing damage when it didn't click when it should have. Set the clicker type to zero before putting it away or the spring can take a set.

Always by hand for 25 years until I finally got a torque wrench about 3 years ago (for another task) and now I have it, I feel I need to get my money worth from it :-)
I never stripped a thread or got a leak in all that time, but am happy to have it correct now!

I do it tight with a normal spanner, Suzuki kit, it does not give mych leverage. I don't change the crush washer, never had a leak nor stripped it yet
